Cubed & Squared

Thanks Mike, I've already spent.....No wait....I LOVE reefing too much to stop now :p

Will post pics of the rescape in a couple days. Doesn't look great, have too many frags around the place. Colors are poor as well. But hopefully, AEFW stays away, and things get back to a point where I can actually enjoy the tank :)

lol...happy to read that buddy:beer:
I'm sure you made an excellent job with the new scape, can't wait to see it:thumbsup:

Hey man. I hope that the AEFW's are dead for sure. Look forward to tank pics. Speaking of pics...man you didnt see that poo splattered tank Richard posted in the Guess the Phosphate level thread (it was pretty disgusting and the mods removed it)...Biggles saw that photo said that turd tank is mine... :angryfire:

I need you to send me some highly coloured SPS; I'll place them in my fake tank and then I can take a quick FTS with my phone and post it. :uhoh2:

Glad to hear you're getting things back to normal Bello  You already know what i think of that acro mate so i'll say nothing lol. I want pics of the new anthias and perhaps a bloody species name at least.
Sorry that deep water RTN'd on you mate :( I've never even seen one let alone had a chance to buy one.

Sahin just PM'd me this pic and reckons it's his tank during a 100% water change......... i have my doubts. There ain't no proof of what tank pic i was referring to in that thread Sahin so in the matter of biggles versus Sahin i find for the defendant biggles - slander case dismissed ! :reading:
I'm shocked that you would even think i'd slag your fictitious fantasy tank mate, i'm certain it's a beautiful display full of imaginary colorful acros........

:headwallblue: What monstrosity is that?

At least the lights are done now Troub. Trust me Troub, if you lived anywhere near me, you wouldn't need to go to the LFS, as a couple of my local buddies are finding out. I've pretty much stocked their tanks for them

I bloody hate cyano with a vengeance. I'd have restarted carbon dosing but for the possibility of cyano returning. Maybe later, a few months down the line....

I'm glad you're through the dipping process... hopefully you kicked that habit for good! :celeb3: Now back to the fun side of sticking your hands in your tank.... Aquascaping again! I can't wait to see what you come up with :eek2:

And YES, I'm SO happy my new LEDs are running! I was so happy when they came on once it was all hooked up in place. I'm jealous of your friends, because my big 'ol 90 is ready and waiting for some new frags. Maybe it's time we train those carrier/homing Angelfish for some coast-to-coast deliveries.

I'm curious to see what happens on the algae/cyano front for me soon with the new lights up. I removed the 1 cup of GFO I had been running a few months back when the cyano was REALLY bad in the DT. I pulled that out and it actually reduced the amount of cyano (which was almost gone at the time) in the DT over the following week. So I'm pretty sure that cup was spent and not pulling anything out of the system anymore.

However there is still a good amount of cyano covering 1/2 the rocks in the fuge. I think it's mostly because my cheato slowly got strangled out and died in there from the bad cyano outbreak. But that's what it's there for... keep the DT clean with the refugium I guess. So I'm thinking somewhat soon I'll add a new batch of cheato back into the fuge. I'm wondering if I wasn't producing enough nutrients for it with only 2 shrimp for a long time. Now with the 2 fish, we're feeding more often and more regularly. Hopefully the new DT lights and feeding schedule won't cause any horrible to explode in the tank.

I don't think my system is quite ready to look into carbon dosing yet. I'm guessing that might get looked into later when the tank is fully stocked and getting a heavy feeding schedule. But I hear you... I don't want another cyano outbreak like I had before.

Keep up the good work though. I'm looking forward to seeing where all the rocks and frags fall! :bum:

lol...happy to read that buddy
I'm sure you made an excellent job with the new scape, can't wait to see it

Thanks Mike, I've posted a "preview" of the scape below, since Biggles thinks I bought some high-end super nice anthias, and I'm going to disappoint him :p

Hahahahaha, unfortunately Sahin, I did see the poo pic. And I cracked up after reading biggles's reply. Was laughing too hard to reply on the thread, lmfao. I guess I have a rather juvenile sense of humor, fart and poo jokes still make me laugh :)

This is what you get Sahin, when you tease us all like this :p. On a serious note, will be happy send whatever I can to you, if possible, but beware, I'm expecting a Milka turd from you too.

Really bummed about the deepwater RTN. I'm trying to replace it asap, but thats proving to be a bit of a problem.

So I did see the case in question, before it was removed by the mods. Therefore I consider myself to be fit to be judge, jury and hopefully...... executioner :p. However, before announcing my verdict, and as a matter of vital evidence....I wanna see Sahin's FTS  HAHAHAHHAHA

I bought cheapo anthias, biggles :p. Simply because I know they're hardy and it fit into my color scheme. Pic below...

I don't think the light change will cause cyano issues, but I'd siphon out what I can, if I were you. Keep an eye on the cyano, with all the changes made, you can't be sure. Hopefully, it won't increase .

BTW, you need to go the LFS pronto, Troub. I may have some corals, but that's crap compared to what you have access to. It just costs more :p. We can consider sending frags via Koala, but we'll have to talk to Kevin about that first, lol.

Anyways, here's the teaser scape pic, with the damned Anthias...biggles, don't be too disappointed

Niiiiice bello!!!
Really like the pic:)
Anthias are beautiful and the scape is exactly what i expected buddy.wow!
Your fish selection is awesome too!

Glad you like it Mike :)

I still have frag racks all over, so I need to clean that up before I can post the FTS. As you can see from the pic, quite a few of the corals are poo brown, so I need to work on that too. Very tempted to go back to carbon dosing...but I need to see what I can achieve with simple methods.

I love dwarf angels, so I had to have at least one in my tank. The rest are colorful, and reasonably priced for me, so that works. While I enjoy rare and beautiful fish, I'm perfectly content with simple beautiful common fish as well :).

Hey dude. Many of your sps look quite colourful which means the rest just need a bit of TLC and some time to colour up. Kevin tells me Biggles whispers "sweet things" (cant disclose what Kevin really told me due to this being a family forum...) and dances in front of the tank before lights out each night. Maybe your corals need some of that too?

Your fish selection is pretty sweet my friend. I wish I had a larger tank to accommodate more fish.

Since you also witnessed the matter of slander; it proves my innocence and Biggles is a lion barshted. :frog:

Bello, I had to dip 2 of my entire systems (several times) because of AEFW. It's a real PITA but I was successful in eradicating them. Last time I did this was in 2007 and 2010. I was using more harsh dips then so corals were really stressed and turned poo poo brown like the pic that was deleted (thanks for the fts sahin) LOL JK JK. Overall I would say that I was setback 3 months of growth which isn't a big deal when your tank is a few years old.

Good to see you going through such measures to get rid of these little sob's. IME the best advice that I can offer is to do everything possible to get a good population of zoox back in the SPS. Maybe reduced photoperiod, amino dosing, night time corals food, run a little higher than normal po4. I've been dosing that Acropower stuff and it definitely does something to make the SPS look more healthy and vibrant. I would recommend that.

It took me a minute to figure out "Lion Barshted", and another minute to control my laughter . If it were possible, I'd happily change my username to that as well :)

That's what bites me, some of the sps look great, some terrible. I lack the experience to see the trend. Will give the tank some recovery time and then hopefully, soon

What carbon dosing are you thinking bello?

I'm trying not to, but I'm most comfortable using ZeoStart3 (since I have some leftover). If not, then biopellets. I do dislike the idea of adding another pump, another reactor, another plug point to the system though. Having said that, I did use bp's/barebottom in a diff system a year ago, and had a very ULNS system.

Bello, I had to dip 2 of my entire systems (several times) because of AEFW. It's a real PITA but I was successful in eradicating them. Last time I did this was in 2007 and 2010. Thanks for the tips Richard . I must admit that yours is one of those tanks, wherein the colors truly befuddle me, and my ideas of what I think I know. I'm trying to rely lesser on test kits and more on observations, using the test kits to perhaps corroborate my conclusions. Still need more experience there.

I wouldn't wish any AEFW on my worst enemy...ok, so I'm lying there :p. Hopefully, I've got these guys out now, but I'm willing and motivated enough to do it all over if I have to.

I've already increased coral feedings. Heard a few good things about AcroPower as well. Will place an order next and give it a go. I can live with a 3 month setback, just want to be on the right track, so that 3 months doesn't turn into bloody six months :).

BTW, love the avatar, oh great Cornholio :p

ME GUSTA!

That looks awesome, Bello!

Thanks Fail, hopefully in a few months things will be better

Bello, the colors come from throwing more food in my tank and having more fish than most guys would be comfortable with. I have 20 fish, feed 3 cubes of mysis, reef frenzy frozen food, spirulina flake, and various pellets daily. You will get cyano from doing this, but IME once it clears up you are left with a system with a very strong bacterial population that can process a lot of waste. Microbe-lift Special blend bacteria speeds things along. No antibiotic slime removers!!! ;)

I am also always playing with my MH fixture height and photoperiod. If I see any minor fading I might raise fixture an inch, or cut photoperiod 20 mins and the opposite. FWIW My po4 was 0.0 on a low range hanna meter last week but my nitrate is around 10ppm. I usually try to have more po4 but I think I changed my ROWAphos a few days before the test.

Thanks a ton Richard!!

Over the last couple years, I've played with a number of different methods, from Zeo, Bp's etc..usually leaning towards low nutrient (NO3/PO4) tanks. Admittedly, I've never tried the healthy feeding method. But have been leaning more and more towards it, after seeing yours and biggles's results.

I believe its time to give it a go! As much as hate cyano, it'll be worth it! Again, I really really appreciate the tips! I'll experiment with the lighting as well, but I'll still be stuck with led's, can't change that no matter what.

The thing is with this method you may find the need to use old methods to keep nutrients from getting too high. You may find the need to introduce a carbon source again. I keep up with the maintenance dose of Special Blend. I really like that stuff.

I've been thinking about that as well. To balance the possible extra bioload, I converted my frag tank into a Chaeto Refugium when I began the AEFW dip treatment. Additionally, I'm now tempted to install the bigger skimmer, either immediately or after I return from my holiday in 3 weeks time.

I've heard about the Special Blend bacteria, will also look into that. I have some leftover Zeobak and Biomate with me as well. Perhaps I'll start with that, while I await the Special Blend.

Either way, at least now I have a better plan in my head on how to proceed

Thanks again

That stuff stinks like poo...seriously it does. Urrrrgghhhh I used it to treat my tank of Cyano before. :crazy1:

The only thing with Special Blend is that I recall the bottle stating that the bacteria will survive so long as the specific gravity doesnt go above 1.024...

What's your SG Richard?
