CUC questions???

So I have a 46 bow, with 1 ocell clown, 1 lawnmower, 1--what I thought was a royal gramma but turned out to be a royal dottyback -- (so far everyone gets along well) and 1 valentini puffer. Also 1 frag of zoas, 1 hammer, and one mushroom that's gone MIA.

Also, also... it's running on a (supposedly) 500gpm Chinese canister. I know, I know...I'm doing water changes and cleaning the pads and watching the nitrates (so far so good).

But I'd like to add a little bit of help controlling left-overs with the puffer eating "messy" foods now. Problem is I don't want a CUC to BECOME "messy" food. At least before they did any good. It wouldn't bother me too much as it would help keep the puffer's teeth down, but I'd rather not supply him with expensive treats that become treats before they can do their job.

So the question is what eats left-overs, but isn't too expensive, and might do some good before becoming a puffer dentist tool?

I would just get a few Scarlet hermit crabs and call it a day. You might want to feed smaller portions at a time too though. I'm not sure what kind of food your using, but you could put it in a cup of water first and then dish out the portions with a spoon.

Currently using pellets and frozen krill. Only doing about half a cube at a time though. I don't think it's a problem yet. I just want to make sure it doesn't become one.

Do you rinse the frozen food before serving?
That cuts down on the mess......

Cut the cube in half, place in cup of water, strain oily cloudy stuff, pour in a little-wait for fish to eat-pour in a little -wait for fish to eat- until the half cube is gone. Should I just be dropping in the tank?

I like that, I do the same but I use a fine strainer to clean.
Dropping the cube is lazy, your approach is better...
