Cucumber moves after nine days ... straight to the powerhead

I'm not sure to make sea cucumbers but the three I have that survived the trip from TBS laid on the sand and hardly move for nine days! I know they aren't dead ... when one dies it is hard to misinterpret. So, after nine days, the biggest cuke of the lot finally moved last night ... straight to the top/rear of the tank to wedge himself behind a powerhead and has sat there ever since.

Maybe he just likes a jacuzzi ...

Good advice. I can see how the intake guards on the powerheads are an invert's best friend. Without them my tank would sound like a cuisinart ...

At least some of the cukes that come with TBS are (I think) called donky kongs, or dongs or something like that. They like to find a nice place to tuck away out of site and then use feelers to pull in food. I have found mine all over the place, one even kicked a mantis out of a tunnel so that he could have it for himself.

hmmm... armed squadrons of sea cukes to vanquish the invading mantis. You may have stumbled onto something. Then again..... it must be past my bed time

beware, I lost a cuke to the grating on the powerhead. Pieces of him ended up getting wedged in the grating and he succumbed

are these things sort of small, like a grub?

akula, - My smallest one looks like a smallish pickle. He is about 2 inches long. The big one, the acrobat, is about 4 inches long. They can squish down into some amazingly small places though.

Did you not get any in your TBS package? You didn't miss too much in my opinion but my wife likes them.

I do have 2 that would fit the small pickle discription. on has never moved from the rock it has attached to. it is a tan color. the other was very active at first, was more of a dark purple color, and would be in a different spot on a rock each morning. the purple one actually fired off 2 dozen eggs and then disappeared. both are only an inch long. I just had thought that cucumbers were a larger creature.

I got two yellow(Tiger Tails) and two of the dark ones. Not much movement at first , then the yellows went to the waterline and stayed for about a week. The dark ones went into the rock and stayed there.
The yellows worked down to the sand after several weeks and split their time between the sand and rock. The dark ones seem to prefer the rock.
I don't think I have ever actually seen one move. They are extremely slow.

My cucumber has been at the waterline since Friday and I was hoping to do water change but I believe they cannot be exposed to air. Can I coax (push) him down or is it best to leave it be?

I don't think there is any harm in gently coaxing them to move. I did and he eventually found his happy place on the sand and has never been back to the glass.

One still hasn't eaten in more than two weeks but is still alive.

i got one yellowish brown one and kinda of a greenish brown one, the greenish brown one went to a hole in the rock and has been there 2 days, the yellow one went to the water line and wedged himself behind the heater. He's moved since then so i know he's not stuck, they don't seem to be very active critters.
