From what I've heard, cucumbers are risky, especially in a small water volume. When they stress, they emit a toxin that crashes your tank. Look up cuke nuke. I personally wouldn't take the risk.
I personally believe the cuke nuke is over exaggerated. But it can happen, and as villas says, small water volumes will just exacerbate the issue should it occur.
Water volume is everything with a creature who emits toxins when stressed. A small amount might not phase a 200 gallon tank, but will render everything in a 10g rubbish and make you start over.
