Culligans Water & Toadstool Falling Over?

One of my toadstools has a huge head and it may be getting the better of him. He is looking like the leaning tower of coral all of a sudden today. He was upright yesterday. Any ideas as to why he might do that? He is leaning on the edge of a little divet in the live rock. Think its looking for a little extra support?

Also - I just realized that there is a Culligans Water dispenser at my local walmart and I was reading up on it. It is RO water that is put through a bunch of filters for metals and such and then goes through a UV sterilizer. Does anyone have any experience with this water or have any info on it? Granted it isnt RO/DI but RO is okay....isnt it? Its like .40 a gallon and its close. It could easily become a steady source of filtered water for me rather than going from place to place and paying alot more for not having consistency. Was considering picking some up for tomorrow's WC. Thoughts?
Thank you!

What have you been using for water currently? I would suggest you bite the bullet and purchase and RO/DI unit, it will pay for itself in the long run. You should be able to pick one up relatively inexpensive ($100 - $175) either here on the forum or on one of the popular Internet sites. Ro/di water is going to be the best supply for water as it should have a 0 TDS rating. Also it is best to stick with one source of water and not experiment too much as difference sources of water will yield different results.

Ive used water from like 8 different sources so far. So, I am trying to weigh out the pros n cons of the Walmart water. It probably wont be 0 tds but it will be low. It is cheap. It is super close. It is consistent.

Im going to look into purchasing a tds meter just so i can see where the water is and i would be able to continue checking it when i need more just incase the machine doesnt get maintained often enough. I guess i could call Culligans and ask what their maintenence schedule of this vendor. I was also reading something on their website about renting equipment. However, if i was to start making my own water, my landlord might kill me because she watches the water bill like a hawk!

water bills suck however driving around to get water everyday, ... not for me

except for the 4 times i have flooded the bathroom my RODI has been fantastic... really need to set an alarm for myself...

Well Chris....with my water needs its more like every week rather than every day :p

But i do get what youre saying.

So, no comments on the leaning toer of toadstool eh? Today he seems to be standing a bit straighter. Strange little guy.

4 times is a good start. I gotta have at least 20 under my belt over the years. Lol Float valves and water alarms are my best friend these days.

Steph, I'm sure the Toadstool is fine. They're temperamental little buggers. I've had some with huge caps lay over, over night and stay like that for a few days. Then back up again. I wouldn't put too much worry into it.

Okay, i am gonna move the powerheads a bit today and scrape the back panel so i can get my 700gph one on there. From there I will figure out what to do with the 425. I still want to increase flow. Right now Ive got approximately 1500gph in there. I figure another 500 should help a bit. Then later the skimmer will give more flow but that wont come into the display, correct?

I will just watch the toadstool. He opens and has grown sooo much! So I assume he is happy and I am just paranoid. Although i do wish he could shed his mucusy layer because he has quite a bit of algae going on.

I'm with Pl-reef on this one that leathers are very temperamental. The only leather I have in my tank will pretty much topple over every night while the lights are off and most of the time will pop right back up shortly after the lights come back on but will sometimes lay over for a day or so. It seems like they don't like change at all and will remain ****ed off for a while after being bothered

Yah Bob, that's the problem Im having with my other toadstool. It used to be the larger one that extended most and was really pretty.
However, something made it mad and it has stopped fully extending its polyps and seems a bit shrunken (definitely not growing at this point)

Give it time and stability and I'm sure it will come back. Leathers also look kinda crappy when they shed also so maybe that has something to do with it so?

Did about a 5.5g wc last night. Only stirred up two-thirds of the sandbed this time. Tried to move my large powerhead to the back panel but it kept slipping off. Finally thought i had it. It stayed put about a half hour and then fell off. So instead i moved my Koralia 425 to the back right under the return. Seemed to be doing a pretty good job flow-wise. Kept the 700gph powerhead on the right & towards the back. I think i have all of the flows hitting each other. Or at least thats what Ive attempted.

Really have to grab a turkey baster for the back chambers. There is this dirt...darker than the sand....covering the bottom of the chambers and i think my return is exploding with bubbles on occasion as it is probably getting clogged with the crap. I did wipe it down last night and tried to get some of the dirt off but then it had to go lay in it again anyways. So will grab the baster this week.

Gonna do some tests tonight when i get home. Depending on how they look I will do another 2g change tonight. Will let yall know.
