Cupermaine and API Copper Test Kit

I am quarantining fish for the first time. I set up a 10 gallon basic bare bottom tank with sponge bubble filter, heater, HOB filter with a filter pad (no carbon), PVC for fish hiding spots, and small power head.

I purchased two small snowflake clowns about a week ago. I got them feeding good and settled into the new tank. I dosed 20 drops of Cupermaine last night as per the directions say. Before adding the additional 20 drops tonight I tested the levels using an API Copper Test Kit. The water sample never changed color indicating a zero reading. My question is will the API test kit work with Cupermaine?

I use/used API Copper test. It's a so-so test and hard to read.

What I did:
- First switch all measurements to liters-> 1 drop per liter is exactly right dosage to kill ich (after the ramp-up).Remove a X number of liters then add back the same with X drops.

- Cupramine is amazingly stable and stays at the same dosage level over time. It's stable unlike other copper medications.

- Make a "control" for copper testing. I took a liter of water and added 1 drop of Cupramine to it - then put that in "water bottle" and marked it "control". Test your copper levels against this control. Again the API test is maddening.

-I kept the water at 35ppt and suggest you mark your tank water level with a sharpie. Top-up to the water line in the morning.

- I used RO water for saltwater and evaporation water but I suppose you could use distilled. After a week or so I found that there was no longer a need to test fanatically as has been suggested. I stopped testing and just continued my "water in = water out " strategy.( tested weeks later and found it still bang-on).

Cupramine works.......

Get the Seachem copper test for Cupramine. When in doubt call the number on the bottle, Seachem has excellent customer service

+1 Dmorty, seachem's is designed to be used with cupramine, you could try salifert or red sea.. but I wouldn't use the API test kit, multiple people have reported getting a 0 on it when it was at the correct dosage.
