i'm just wondering if i could use the seachem cupramine and api general cure at the same time? i'd like to make sure fish are free of flukes. i've read somewhere that cupramine does not kill all types of flukes. i'm not sure that's even true. i couldn't get prazipro where i live so i got the api general cure instead. thank you for reading.

If your tank has invertebrates, don't use cupramine or other copper based meds. If all fish, cupramine should be OK, but I don't know the answer to your question about using them together.

it's for the new fish in quarantine tank. i don't use any kind of medication in reef tank. thanks for reminding me. :)

I would not use them together. The combination of metro and copper is too much stress for the fish. Copper does not eradicate flukes, it will knock them back some.

thank you for the replies. i've decided to wait till cupramine treatment is finished. only after that i'll start the api general cure treatment.

as for copper not eradicating flukes, you guys might be right but seachem's claiming that cupramine does eradicate flukes. this is from seachem faq:

"Q: Can you tell me if Cupramine™ is effective against gill fluke?

A: Yes, Cupramine™ effectively eradicates ectoparasite of both freshwater and marine fish. Please be sure to follow all directions on the product, make sure that you do not mix with any other medications and turn off your UV sterilizer. Please let me know if you have any further questions."

anyway, i think most people use prazipro for a reason and that reason is that praziquantel eradicates all kinds of flukes. so i'll do what most people do and use general cure which contains praziquantel as i could not get the prazipro.

Call seachem and ask them directly. I wouldn't mix anything with cupramine, for instance water conditioner will make cupramine deadly

i've decided not to mix cupramine with any other medications. i'd like to know what seachem says though. since international call rates are pretty high from my country, i'll call them when i visit the states. :D

i'd like to know what seachem says though.

I'm guessing they'd say the same thing as what they state on their website:

"Remove all invertebrates. Turn off UV sterilizer; remove chemical filtration. If the bottle has a dropper cap, use 20 drops (1 mL) per 40 L (10.5 gallons*) the first day, wait 48 hours, then repeat. On non-dropper caps, each inner ring is 1 mL. In freshwater use half dose. Final copper concentration is 0.5 mg/L (0.25 mg/L in freshwater). Leave at this concentration for 14 days. Do not redose without testing (MultiTest: Copper™). Do not use in conjunction with any other medication. If tank has ever been treated with an ionic copper (e.g. copper chloride, sulfate or citrate), test copper level after initial dosing. Although most fish tolerate Cupramine™ to 0.8 mg/L, it is not advisable to exceed 0.6 mg/L copper. Remove with carbon or CupriSorb™.

In case of eye exposure, promptly & thoroughly wash eyes with water & seek medical attention
