Cupramine

Hey,
I have a 10g tank, with 1 damsel that has ich.
I did 1ml of cupramine 3 days ago, then 1 ml yesterday.
It says after doing it 2 times, stay at that concentrate for 14 days.
Does that mean keep doing it every 48 hours for 14 days, or not to do it for 14 days?
Thanks.
Lisa

the most important thing is to have a good test kit for copper, you dose the tank till you reach .5 on the copper test kit, once you get to .5 you stop dosing and leave it there for 14 days i like to go for 3 weeks myself

I recommend the Red Sea test kit, even though it only goes up to 0.4 on the chart. Its easy to use, easy to read, and if you really want to measure up to 0.5 split the water half and half with something that you know has no copper in it (e.g. from your display tank). Me, I just get it up to read 0.4 and that's IMO good enough.

I recommend avoiding the Seachem Multi-Test oddly enough. Many, many problems with the kit reading low or even zero copper, even on their own supplied reference kit, and when it does work, their color gradiant measurement scale is difficult to read.

Only do 2 doses of 1ml for your 10 gallon. The directions can be slightly misleading. The two doses of 1ml should give you the recommended 0.5 needed. Cupramine is affective from 0.2 to as high as 0.8. If you dosed a total of 2 ml in a 10 gallon bare tank with no calcerous substrate or a protein skimmer you should be at the recommended level. Personally I treat for at least 4 weeks.

I agree with bureau13 on the Red Sea test kit and avoiding Seachem's copper test kit. Even thought the "reference" sample tests OK that does NOT mean the test kit is accurate. Also, not all copper test kits will work with Cupramine.

Here is also a good site for referenc.
