Cyano has reared its ugly head!! I vacuumed out all that I could get to. I have Red Slime Remover however would like to try a more natural approach. Any advice?

i know it's not the quick kill you'd hope for, but, more flow and more water changes. i've seen to many folks have problems (and some success) with the slime remover. just not worth risking it in my opinion.

Yep, what Kenny said. It hates high flow. I've used red slime remover twice, and it seemed to make my tank a little bit unhappy, but I had no deaths. Worked GREAT both times though.

Mine was gone the day after I installed Chaeto in my sump. Still see traces of it on the side of the filter sock that faces the light bulb, but none in the DT ever.

I have had good success with it as well. Did some big water changes after each treatment and did two back to back. No problems since. I however did not have SPS at the time. All softies and a LPS or two did fine through it.

The problem with treating bacteria with the slime remover is that if you don't get it all it will grow immunity to it and it will be harder to get rid of later. More flow and more lighting in the area is a safe way to get rid of it. Keeping it suspended in the water column and removing it with mechanical filtration will take care of it.

Until your done treating and do a water change or two you will skim real well. Instead of turning It off readjust It to skim dry during the treatment. JMO

+1 to Bill... If you have a carbon reactor, be sure it is off as well. Once you have done your water changes, get the carbon running again to help remove the remaining chemicals.

I have found in our small tanks we get cyano . The lights and water changes along with more flow has helped us. These guys know their stuff take their advice. Long term solution, water changes and such are better than the chemicals.

Water changes and flow is great, but it does not always work. Sometimes you gotta nuke it.

I'm debating using It myself, I've had small patches of It on and off for months. I have more than enough light with all brand new Radiums and If I had more flow I would blow the skin off my corals and fish??? So brushing It off and removing It manually Is not working... I'll think on It some more but looks like my only option at this point.

On the plus side... It works well. I did two treatments as per the directions and have not seen any since. I had less corals then most when I did, but did have some SPS and LPS that showed no ill effects.

I used the RSR and almost instantly the skimmer went nuts and overflowed. It took about three days for the cyano to disappear. Im gonna go ahead and do a fat water change tomorrow and fire the skimmer back up. The only ill effect its had so far is my colt has been completely sucked up for about four days.

You may want to consider a second treatment. As long as you did one, it can help to insure all traces are gone. I did a second after a large 20% water change and have not see any since. I did not even get any back during my 125 break down with poor flow and lighting as I am building my new tank up.

Also, I left my skimmer off for 3-5 days after the water change as it still was going wonky... During that time I just ran fresh carbon.
