Custom 160 Build Thread - Finally!!

Ok, so I found one small leak. It drips one tiny drop about once every 15 minutes if that. I know the best solution is probably to cut the plumbing and remove that section but I was hoping to maybe get away with using this which I have lying around.

I was wondering if anyone has ever used something like that to fix such a tiny leak instead of replacing a whole section of plumbing.

The image below shows where the leak is.

You've come this far. Why not cut and reglue? If it were me and I used a temp fix, it would bother me to the point that I would have to re do it. LOL

The only issue is that its kind of tough to cut the pipe where it is because it's behind some other pipes and I don't have a lot of leverage to cut. It can be done, its just much more difficult than applying a glue/ epoxy.

Of course, I don't want this to be a temporary fix. I was hoping that someone may have used this stuff, or anything similar to it, as a permanent fix without any issues

Yeah, 100% if there is no sort of epoxy or glue thats a permanent fix then ill be cutting it back up.

Its premanent.

god only knows how many leaky plumming I have fis with that stuff and even with your pvc glue.
If you dry the section( no water inside) and apply pvc glue 360 ROUND THAT JOINT you will must likely fix that isssue.

great to know....thank Manny. Did you use the Goop stuff exactly? I guess there is no chemical concern with it then?

Do you think its safer or better to use the PVC glue?

Jorge just dry the joint and use 360 around the joint.

sweet...just did the first layer of glue.....ill let dry for about an hour then apply a second layer, maybe a third for fun. thanks guys.

i have used so much glue trying to fix leaks. if its small enough after a while i will just give up, put a bucket under it and let the salt fix it. After a few days to a week, no leak

very true....the slat creep im sure will seal it.....its that small. glue plus salt creep = no leak. at least thats what Im hoping for.

ok, the glue didn't work so I went with the Plumbing Goop.....tried it for 48hrs and no leak at all........sooooooooo..........

Im draining the FW from the tank tomorrow and hopefully finishing the doors on the stand. In the meantime the RO will be going and hopefully by the end of the weekend there will be rocks, sand, and SW........fingers crossed!!!

lol...yeah, imagine how i feel...

making water as I type. My two containers hold about 90 combined so it'll be a while before the tank is completely filled.

I have a pretty busy day tomorrow but Im going to try and place the rocks (not live) tomorrow and the dry sand that I have. Then once the first 90 gallons are done Ill put a layer of live sand over the dry sand and place the 90 gallons in the tank. Throw a powerhead and a heater......make another 90, add a couple of pieces of LR, and let the cycle begin!!! :bounce1:

I apologize: I have not read the entire thread. Just looked at the pictures :)

Great job. Looks really good. Very clean.

I see that you used BeanAnimal's overflow system. You'll love it.

What size pipes did you use for it?

Word of caution: I can't tell by the pics I saw but the only thing I remember that I had an issue with at first was the length of the drain lines. I found that you don't want the pipes submerged any more than about one inch at the max or else it may not be able to create the full siphon on start up.
