That's s good catch! It looks like any weight on the perimeter is held by the three screws. It's acrylic so the frame probably isn't crucial but the studs would cost about three dollars.
Update! Took 9 days nonstop to fill the entire system! Its been up and running for a few weeks now. I am curently building a massive DIY LED fixture. Here's a pic in its current condition.
