i can adjust the flow to the blow offs by ball valves so i would guess at open full it looks like i would say atleast 300-400gph each. and i would guess about 1400-1600 through the om. i could see micro bubbles running around the tank after i filled it up. it has very good flow and i dont have the returns done yet to test them with the closed loop. the tank has tap water in it just for leak testing in the garage befor i put it in the house, and so i dont make a big mess in the living room. that pvc primmer stains every thing!:eek2: :eek1: :eek2:

im glad u liked the foam and i am 34 so i quess i was 9 when i saw the dark crystal my self and when i find the dvd of it when i have money im my pocket it will be mine, just like my first dvd "The Secret of NIMH"<BR>

got all the plumming done for the REAL closed loop and the returns and gave it a test run and that mak 4 pushs tons of water at 4' but everthing flowed realy good i turned back the ball valve above the pump to kinda simulate 12' of head, still flowed alot WOW! here is my mess of plumming<BR>

here is something i havent seen yet on big tanks yet it called ocean currents Rotator and u can get them HERE. i love what it does (spins 360 degrees) but it takes alot of pressure to get it to move so im going to try to help it out alittle when i go for more pvc(aka spend more money)<BR>

I don't quite get the freak out factor wifes get from holes in the floor. its not like when they build houses they don't cut all kinds in for heating, plumbing etc. I think i'll cherish the look that was a mixture of shock and horror the 1st time I told mine about drilling through it for something like this.

should i tell her that the floor under the carpet was a hard wood? i was saprized to find out. i think it was maple. if i tell her i bet she will have me rip up the carpet and refinish the floor

that rotator you posted a pic of... what kind of GPH do you have going into it and how much loss does it seem to have?

on the directions that came with it it says to put about 400 to it. it comes with a barbed fitting or u can put a .5" threaded pvc in to it. i hade one of them in a utility sink in the basement to test run it off a power head and it waved the hole sink. it was cool. when i tested it in the tank in the garage it did some sweet susrface movement, but i think u can get away with about 300gph or so. i have no idea how much i lost with it. with caculations i should get about 800gph from the sump in the basement. so that should run both easly. so im hoping to have some blow offs in the corners that i plumed in just in case.all the returns do have ball valves so that i can agust flow better. i may mod the rotators with a side discaharge to help them spin easyer with less gph so i can have the surface movement that is random. when i do a freash water test with the tank in the house i will do a movie of them in action.

I have all this drywall, electrical and mudding going on in my house and I told my wife I am going to cut a hole in the roof for another ac vent for my fish room/office andshe said do I need to hire someone. Nothing about electrical or anything else but a hole in the roof..go figure...

got the pics from fidays move in! i was shaking because i was so happy that i was able to finaly move it to its final resting place. we took many smoke breaks! the stand was long and light, and the tank weighed like a tank, heavy! i think i made the stand just right. it fit from one wall al the way to about 2" from the door. perfect!<BR>

i also got my reflectors for my halides on fri also. they are like pfo but longer(18"long) pfo's are 12". ill be buting some polished alum. on the ends so that im not waisting so much light.

no i got to get about $30 more in plumming to do a test of the hole system. the hole in the floor was farther over than what i thought it would have ben, so i need some more pvc so i will be working on my lighting set up since i have the reflectors for the halides. i think by the end of the week i will have a fresh water test going. i have to let that run till i have enough $ for 2 buckets of salt. that will be after the 7th of next month. i have lots of time till then.

PVC fittings and pipe seem to be a never ending need with reef tanks:lol:

Why aren't you utilizing the fact that you have a window behind the tank? I'd be all about that natural lighting! I've got one above my tank and when I build my next canopy it's going to be open to get all the light it can. I love the rays of sunshine that come down through.

You know, I had hardwood floors under my carpet too. You know what? I've got carpet under my tank now. Hardwood is now exposed, but I can not get it out from under and behind the tank! If you are even thinking about it, remove the carpet from under your stand now.
