Custom LED Pendant in hood build for my NC12

Hey guys,
So awhile back I saw Ian, Jewbilee’s, thread “ Custom LED Pendant for his NC12” and thought I would give it a shot. The only real difference is that I wanted to keep it in the hood. Sorry for the picture quality my camera didn't make if back from Key West and I only have my Black Berry to shoot with.

So here is a link to Ian’s thread “Click”. It is far more detailed than mine. Here is also a big write up which is pretty much what I followed ” Click " . The only difference is my power supplies are a 24V 1.8 amp and a 24V 2 A.

Just for kicks I counter-bored the heatsink so the LED’s would sit flush. I drilled and tapped 24 holes to hold in the LEDS in place, pain in the you know what. Then I realized they fit perfectly in the holes and I didn't need to hold them in place at all!!!

As I soldered the LEDS I realized it was actually kind of a poor choice to counter-bore the heatsink since the solder pads are so close to the edge. I had to be very careful not to accidentally let the wire and heat sink touch. You’ll notice some heat shrink wrap on some of the wires where I was a little long with the exposed wire and/or short with the wire all together.

I wasn’t sure how I was going to mount the heatsink but eventually decided to use the original reflector. This was made to mount in the hood so why make more work for myself. I used some metal epoxy and cut off the excess.
I used 2 case fans from RadioShack. These were cheapest I could find with the size and actually have blue LEDs in them which give off a cool glow through the vents when the room lights are off.

Wired up the whites with the fans. I’m still waiting on the power supply for the blues but I’ll switch the fans over once it gets here.

All wired up and ready to go!

Mounted the dimmers on the lid. Radioshack doesn't have the right size nobs and I don't want to pay for shipping for tiny pieces of plastic. Next time I have a some free time I’ll find some scrap rods and make some.

I put the plastic cover back on and we are ready to grow some coral!!! Sooooo pumped to have coral again!!!!
