Ok

I have all the pieces cut for around a 7 gallon tank. The demensions are kinda wierd because i got the pieces scrap. I dont have enough money right now to start a reef but ill convert later. I was gonna use an aquaclear filter and mod it into a fuge. The tank it about 7/8 inches tall 17/18 long and 12 wide(i dont have the pieces near me so these are guesses. I wanted to know if i could use this http://www.bigalsonline.ca/BigAlsCA...alifeaqualightdoublelinearstrippowercompact12 because my tank is so short. Also would i need a powerhead? Umm could i put a true clown in there and a bunch of snails and shrimp. And could anyone tell me anything else i absolutly need (for cheap).
I dont know if this is the right place but does anyone know where i can buy weld-on 3 other than a glass store???(i live in cananda just to let you know)

Any tips wanted also.

Thanks

do you have a picture 7/8 of an inch tall sounds cool and you dont use weld on for glass only acrylic you can use silicone for glass

A little help for you.

A little help for you.

That light is pretty good start for the size tank you are making. It will be perfect for some zoo’s or mushroom and other low light corals. But, you can fit a 32 watt retro over a tank that is 17” long. If you are short on money you could start with one 32 watt 50/50 bulb retro and add another when you get more funds. The Aquaclear will give you some flow but you will also want a small powerhead or 2 for some more water movement, something like a Maxi jet mini 606 or a Tunze Mini 5024.04. I like these because they are small (I hate looking at powerheads in the tank) and they offer good flow. You should be able to keep a clownfish, snails and a shrimp with no problem but, you will want to keep the bio load down without a skimmer. Just do a 10-20% water change every week.
Sorry to tell you but a nano is hard to do on the cheap. Don’t buy cheap equipment because you will just end up replacing it later, why pay for something twice.
Here in the states you can buy Weld-on 3 from tapplastics.com not sure about up north.

I meant 7 or 8 inches tall just to clear things up. Also its actually plexiglass.

Wow thatnks, that sounds good. Umm whats a bio load. Ans would the 12 inch light cover the 17 inch tank without leaving dark spots?

ok well for 8 inchs tall it will be good for soifties but im not sure how your going to mount it... you would have to hang it from the celing or somthingor you could get an 18 inch or 20 inch light and just push the legs in or hang and you would also get alot more light

if you decided to go with metal halides(way more money but your choice) i would get this light in 70w because of the short heighthttp://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=13975&N=2004+113352
as for flow maby a maxi jet or a mini jet or tunze minis as stated above but dont get cheep equipment to start because youll end up upgrading it anyway

Thanks.

i wish i could get stuff off drsfoster but he doesnt ship to me. The next best thing is marinedepot. Since im starting with fw then just moving my fish to my other tank i can keep buying stuff as i go because the tank will still be in use. I did find these lights and they look very good i just dont know what one to get.Any other lights from marine depot or bigals you guys know about would help me out.
