It is currently 1.5 inches or so...
ITs not a bandensis for sure, but Im hoping its a species that will stay small.

He seems very active during the day...Pretty much Whenever I look over there hes doing something..and once he sees me come closer..he will slowly hide but keep his eyes in view to watch me...

Also, he seems to often have these spots that go around the side to back of his mantle..They look like UFO Lights

Here are some videos..You will need to wait for it to load for it to play smoothly...

Hunting Mode

Walking on 2 legs....

Thanks!!

Ive had him for 2 weeks now and he may have grown a little.
Feeding him 2 times a day..shrimp or crab, hes maybe 1.65 inches if that. This should give an idea of its growth rate.

Here are some better pictures I just took. I tried to get one of most his normal solor shades with a different angle..

Mano, Ive thought of it being an officinalis before as well, but Ive read that the young will double its weight per week. So far Ive had it for two weeks and its grown, but not nearly at that rate. It may hae added 10% of its original body weight.

It may in fact be an officinalis though and Im just "hoping" that its not for those get HUGE and beyond my ability to keep it.

Has anyone had jouvenile Officinalis that can offer thier experiences with thier growth rates??

Bpnd964-Its a cuttlefish in which im unsure of the species...You can get officinalis however at www.octopets.com but you will require a very large tank for it...

Paradox,

Where did you purchase it from? I'm not sure what other species are available besides officinalis and bandensis. Have you tried posting a photo of it on tonmo.com to see if someone there can help you positively ID it?

I purchased it from a local fish store in san francisco called 6th ave...

Yes, I have popsted on Tonmo as well and it has still been IDed.

The link to the tonmo post is here http://www.tonmo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4716

Im positive its not a bandensis. It looks like some images ive seen of oficianalis, but some aspects dont match. Its been 3 weeks now since ive had him and hes grown maybe 5% compared to what I read stating that oficianalis double thier weight ever week when young...

Thanks for your sugestions..and comments...

i am almost positive that you have an oficinalis... i have 5 of them in the cephalopod lab that i am running experiments in, and within 10 months or so they weigh an average of 650 grams a piece. these guys grow extremely fast!

Thanks for your ID, Ive been growing more and more convinced lately that it is in fact an oficianalis.

I hate to have to give him away, but in a month or so I will not be able to house this guy..

Hes become very personable. Always coming to the front of the tank when Im around. He definetly recognises people for hes much more friendly to me then my girlfriend =)

Hi Paradox

I'm located in SF also, i'd be a willing reciever of your cuttlefish if you need a new home for it

I'm bummed that i missed it. I occasionally browse 6th ave for the hopes that they will get something cool in.

Yust a guess but Sepia plangon is sometimes available for trade. This species looks more like S. officinalis. Sepia bandensis has an different formed head. These species grows to a lenght of 16 cm.
