Cyano Outbreak

Re: Cyano Outbreak

Taz, you will need at least three of the larger bottles. I think that should get you through 5 weeks. However, if you tank already has a strong bacterial population, I would dose a little less than what is recommended. After my second dose on Wednesday night, my water never fully cleared. When I came in last night. It was stilll somewhat cloudy and the fish were all rapid-fire breathing. I'm assuming that the tank had hit critical mass on the bacteria and what I was witnessing was a bacterial bloom.. I took some action to help airate the water, but did not have enough water made up at the time to do another water change. I'll wait another 72 hours as suggested by Warren, then I'm hitting her with another 44 gallon water change.

Guys let me know if you think I'm of base here...

Ok after 3 weeks of using SB I see about a 70% decrease in the amount of cyano!! This is the first thing to make a difference other than manually cleaning.

Warren, thanks!

I think your on base....cloudy water, rapid breathing..sounds like a bloom and lack of o2....mine was totally gone within a week, but I'm continuing the dosing..

I've never experienced what you are describing but I would do a water change and stop dosing until the water clears up. I know you have your skimmer on but just wanted to mention it as it will help with the o2 levels.

Glad I came across this as I have been battle a mild case myself over the past month! PITA. SB here I come. LOL

Things have returned to normal it seems. As for the skimmer, it's been churning 24/7. I also removed the piece of pvc that submerges the drain into the water in the sump. This way, more oxygen is being introduced as well as the water smashes into the sump. I kinda' figured what I experiened was becase of the bacterial buildup that was already present from the MB7. I willl take caution and dose a little less than recommended next tim aroud. Warren, thanks for keeping up with me on this. I truly appreciate it.

Cato,
Welcome aboard. Good luck with your battle and make sure you pick up some nose plugs.

Wallysworld/Mike,

Thats great to see that you guys are seeing such great results. mine has sinificantly cutback as well, but there are still some tough spots left.. I'm just past my 1st week and second doseage, so my fingers are crossed.

LOL Will do! I suppose I should be cautious also as I've been running Prodibio for the past 14 months with great success.

Ok. from the looks of things, the Cyano is on a serious retreat. No more thick buildup and no more growth since my weekend water change. Definitely a big difference from the last pics I posted. Fingers are still crossed..

Warren/Mike,

Thanks guys! We can all have a beer or three on me behind this one  Third dose of Sb is coming up on Thursday.. It's amazing how much brighter your tank looks when this stuff starts going away!

I agree, my third dose is coming up EOW. But the tank is almost 100% rid of cyano! Finally something that actually works!

Thanks guys!

Hi,
sorry to jump in on the thread, but could anyone tell me if it would be possible to use Microbe lift special blend to dose with vodka instead of dosing vodka and MB7? or am i missing something here?

cheers,

Pete.
