Hmmm, You can try backing off on the vodka for a week and see if there is any change. If the change is positive, then I would try starting a different carbon source or a mix which would be even better.
Hey Mike, Good secrets can never be kept for long. I would order it as well. It's a lot cheaper than what I have seen it for locally. If you need some right away, let me know. My bottle has a couple of doses left and I'm not due for my first maintenance dose until this Thursday. You're welcome to it.

OK, unplugged UV added 215 ml. for first dose. would it be OK to do water change next weekend before dose #2 on Monday? or is there a certain wait time for water changes after dosing? hope to have good news to update through this. also do you all do the maintenance dosing every other week? after the 5 week initial set up.

Don't want to jinx it, but...looks like second dose is really doing the trick! still slight cyano films but no where close to what it has been. still waiting to see my DT with no cyano...keep your fingers crossed with me! Thank you to all the help from everyone on this thread

hi everyone, i have a small outbreak too. i read that many people are dosing vodka (still or before). i never dose vodka for my tank. it is only a 29 G. i only have LPS and softies. would it be save to use special blend? thanks.

If your tank looks good and is doing well, I wouldn't consider dosing vodka. The carbon dosing method is geared towards SPS tanks where you aim to get organics as low as possible.. LPS and softies can actually thrive in tanks where a higher concentration of nutrients exist.. As for your Cyano issue, I would definitely give SB a try.. It's good stuff and has only had positive effects on my tank as well as some other folks here.

Stopped the vodka for a week and does look much better. After one week I started dosing vinegar only and nothing got any worse. I'm on week four of the SB and still have some of the gold colored sand. Hopefully in a couple more weeks, mine can look as clear as yours. Are you doing any carbon dosing now?
