cyano question

I've got some cyano going on. I just upgraded my lights this week, so I'm assuming that is what triggered it? In the past I have always done the blackout trick for a couple days to get rid of it. I've never before had anything that photosynthesized, now I have an open brain coral, waving hand coral and an anemone. Will these guys tolerate a blackout or is there something different I should do?

Thanks for your help.

I have had no luck with black outs. I do not like yo use chemicals in my tank. Unfortunately the antibiotic is the only way i have found to get rid of it. If you do go this rout check the skimmer ofen as it will go crazy.

You should have limited main light time and bring up slowly to let tank adjust to new light.I would reduce light time and do some water changes and increased flow would help with less food for awile.

I don't know if this will actually work or not, but I think I am seeing the end of my cyano out break...again, and the only thing that I did differently is...

to halt water changes for a couple of weeks. That's right! I gave up on the idea of too much nutrients in the water and threw in the towel with the idea of, "if I ignore it, it will go away!" And it's going away!!! Woot!!!

I have other ideas as to what may have caused mine, however, I have not pinned it down. I think it could be a pH that was up and down or contributed by a tank temp that was running a little higher. I don't have proof, but we will definately watch this at this time next year.
