cycling with media

when you cycle, are you supposed to put any ammonia, nitrite, or nitrate absorbing media in?

You don't have to.

If your system came with a bag of carbon media you can use it while you cycle then switch to better alternatives like Chemi-pure and Purigen (or if your like me get both).

thanks, i use chemi pure. I am confused because people say that if yo take all of the media iun and it absorbs ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate than the live rock does not grow bacteria since it has nothing to feed on.

When I cycle a tank I like to run without media. I rather it cycle naturally without any help from the media. I also through a raw cocktail shrimp in there for the bacteria to feed on. So far it has always worked great.
