Cyphastrea issues

Hi everyone,
I have a red cyphastrea. It was in a 14g nano cube, recently moved into a 50g cadlights cube. In the 14g it was under stock lighting (cf's) and now it's under AI Vega LED's. In the 14g it was up pretty high and growing like mad. Once I moved it into the 50g. I put it mod light, mod/high flow. Recently I noticed that the tissue was receding and the rock was showing through. I moved it to the bottom and out of the flow thinking this would help. Unfortunately it seems like the tissue is still disappearing. Not much polyp extension at all.
I love this coral. All my param's are spot on with one exception- nitrates at 2.5ppm. It being a newer tank I'm still working on getting them down.
Any thoughts about what is going on?
I love this coral and would hate to lose it.

About 5 mos? I have a chalice in there and a poci and those seem to be doing OK- the chalice is loving it in there. Are Cyphastrea a little more temperamental?

In my experience no, in fact I wish I had never put this meteor shower in my tank, it's taking over....grows in total shade and fast too and because it encrusts it's very very hard to stop or even slow....be happy it's not happy

I read that most reefers have it in almost total shade- so that's why I moved it out of the flow and to the bottom of the tank. It's still mad. It grew like crazy in my old tank. Which was way more scuzzy and filled with LPS. Go figure!

I have the cherry blossom cyphastrea which is branching and I need to keep it in total shade. Every time I move it out it starts to almost look like its burning, it starts turning white losing tissue. Its always much happier in low light

I agree they don't like to be blasted with light. Don't stress to much I've thought I lost my meteor shower a few times and it always comes back super fast too.
