d2mini's "Essential Focus" Mixed Reef Build

One of my favorite creatures to watch when the lights go out (or before they come on, in this case).

He's been hanging around since the tank restart in April.
Hoping he continues to do well. Filter feeders are tough to keep!

I always talked to the Triton guys in their sponsor forum on the other reef forum. Tim was the one who suggested I check my nutrient levels. Oops.
But nothing they could do after that.
It works, just be careful.
So what do you think went wrong and how could you have prevented it?

Hi Denis got to say you always have awesome looking tanks. I was looking at you setup and was wondering if you could share how you have your vortech pumps setup. I have some on my tank and just never really happy with the flow on my tank. I see you have one on the right side and one on the back.

Yup, just those two. They are both 40's.
I don't remember exact schedules but they run independently of each other and run various modes throughout the day. Constant speed, reef crest, lagoon, tidal swell. I've also lowered the flow several months ago. I don't think they run more than 50% power.

Thanks for posting your comments/experiences with the booster pump. I've been considering adding one to my system, and you probably just put me over the edge.

As always... great tank, but even better information.

You ever run Gyres, Dennis? I have 2 xf250's and anything over 45% and my sand moves around, and it's even caribsea special grade so it's not small
I ran them on my previous tank and wasn't a fan. Too many small/fragile parts, the fins broke, flow got weaker over time, rock work interrupted the gyre flow pattern, maintenance was a pain.
They were gen 1 though. IMO nothing beats Ecotech and Tunze for quality and ease of use/maintenance. YMMV.

Thanks for the info Dennis..

Thank you, and you're very welcome. :)

Just FYI.... three of these showed up at my door this weekend. :)
Now I just need to get my hands on our club's par meter before opening up my Radions and doing the install.

Radion diffusers??

Yup, and no idea yet when I'll have the par meter.
Can't try these out until then due to the fact that they don't just snap over the Radions... they replace the current bottom panel. Ugh. haha
I want a new baseline rather than going off previous measurements.

Nice! I'm so glad someone finally brought something like that to market and I've referred it to several people already.

Myself, I'll be holding off for awhile. I kind of have this personal challenge thing going. Since I wasn't happy with radions on a previous tank, I'm taking what I've learned since and attempting to go as long as possible with just the Radions. So far so good this time! :)
