DA firmware 2,0 update

That post actually leaves me with more questions than answers. :(

Net 2.0 is that a firmware update or will we need a whole new module to do any of the net stuff we have wanted? SID 2.0 needed for MyReef software? Does that mean a hardwire needed to a computer for using it?

Yep, you have to have it hardwired to a computer to use MyReef. You can control the RKL with 2.0 via the net module.

AS I udnerstand it (whihc may be worng) the SID 2,0 is a new sid that will allow the communication to your PC. SID 2 applies the using MyReef software only.

Firmvare 2.0 adds the turn on/off/auto functions and whatever other net module enhancements to the system. They are 2 seperate items.

MyReef will be depenant on the SID 2.0 (a usb conncetor), and the v2.0 firmware.

If I understand you correctly, I then have to have a PC sitting near my tank even though I have the Net module. Very disappointing design.

You are correct. And that was my thought too about the design. Even with the RKE you have to have the SID 2.0 hooked up to the system to program it with MyReef. That is my understanding

Big *if's* there. We didn't know wree were getting storm mode or a few of the other things until this latest announcement. DA is holding things very close to their chest.

..and holding things close is why people are starting to get seriously annoyed with them. Why do I care about storm mode? I do not. (Not to mention there are next to no fixtures that can be controlled in the first place!) I want the basics finished off before that stuff gets even on the drawing board.

To the mods: I sent a message a couple of days ago to have my Premium membership canceled. I still see the identification in my posts and have received no response. What is up?

That is what is irritating about them, they hold out on a lot of info and surprise you at the last minute after you already purchase the product. Most of the surprises are not good ones. Everyone was under the impression that the MyReef waould be controlled thru the net module, not so as it looks. And DaveMorris's basic point of view is "why would you need to remotely program your controller"

On the plus side, I soon will be able to control my amphibian tanks. :) Well, I do not have any and my fish do not seem to be enthused about that either... but hey that is cool right? :~ :( :(

and I bet they make a humidity module to add to the herpcontroller before they allow remote programing of the RKE ;)

To be honest, the humidity module on the SL3 would be pretty nice for me. Since my refugium is in a small closet, I am keeping an eye on the humidity and temp manually for now. Still, I want the remote programing first.

I just don't know how you guy's would have got along 30 yrs ago:fun2: Imagine having to do It all manually every day without exception. And It still was a fun hobby even In those archaic times so long ago:rolleye1:;);)

I think I could have hooked by Vic 20 up to my tank back then. :) Maybe some interface to the cassette reader. :)

Spoiled

Spoiled

We are spoiled now Bill, hehehe

Actually I like to do a lot of things manually still.

Nah, Not spoiled just smarter then we were then, I would have done It back then If i knew how...:idea::idea:

Or a very long USB cable

Wow. I am seriously, seriously happy I got the Apex. I don't have to have a computer anywhere near the tank or hardwire anything. I use the head unit to casually view the pH and temp. Sounds like this update rather sucks. I can do anything I want with my Apex already over the web with no issues. I haven't seen any bugs, and the latest update actually added some useful features. I can also update my entire system over the network without having to ever hardwire anything to a PC. Storm mode? Who cares about that, really?

Now that sounds like a plan - once I get my system set I can forget about it ...only maybe I could go get a Lexus IS F or a new Shelby GT500 LOL :bounce3:
