Damn Urchin!!!

So on Thursday I bought a nice little frag out of the $9.99 tank at Elmers, I brought it home and mounted it up high in the tank so it could get lots of light. It was doing great, it colored up really quick and all signs pointed towards the good, that was until last night when it was eaten by my damn urchin!!!

If that thing wasn't such an algae eating machine I would get rid of it in a frickin blink of an eye. I guess I can chalk this up as something to remember for next time.

No, I think it was a mushroom but it could have been a ric, it was too small for me to tell (about a centimeter) but the colors were awesome (blue and green). There were three of them on there an the urchin cleaned off the whole rock.

Some urchins can do so well that if your tank is acrylic and not glass they can scrape deep marks into your tank.

tuxedo urchin. I have one and he hasn't even knocked a single frag over yet.

I have a long spine and it only does so so on the glass but it keeps my rocks clean, it eats so much off the rocks that I can see loss of rock where it has been eating.

I think that all urchins are hit or miss when it comes to bothering corals, I have seen tuxedos that pick up and carry corals and mine will push my corals off the rocks just because it can. I just glued its favorite target down to try and stop it.

I have a pink rose urchin and he is cleaning house and hasn't eaten anything he shoudn't...yet.
