Hands down the most peaceful damsel is the yellowtail. It would be the only damsel that I would add to a truly community tank.

Yellowtails do fine in a community tank. I have had them for years. No problems at all. I am not sure what his experience is. Every fish can be different but I have had several yellowtails that were model citizens.

I only have experience with two damsels, but I am getting rid of them and my tank was pretty peaceful with three fish(they came with my tank: three stripe, sergent major, and ocellaris clown). When I had all three of them the ruler/king of the tank was the clown which was still a male(female died 4 weeks prior to purchase). I was able to catch the clown and trade in for in store credit and got a pair of percs(which the female had a role in killing the male). After that the sergent major got fairly nasty with the three stripe. The three stripe was always to least dominant and even did the whole side floating thing when the clown charged him. So depending on your tank the three stripe may be peaceful.

thanks reefjunkie, christman, reef newbie. anybody else wants to share what they've experienced? im going towards the yellowtail since it looks like a blue tang with the colors i mean. i need other inputs please...

Dominos are my favorite but they get to be very mean. Blue velvets look great even when they are adults. If I had to get a damsel though I would get a springeri damsel. I heard they eat flatworms, are less aggressive and don't get huge and ugly.

I've had great luck with rex damsels.Haven't had an issue in the years that I've kept them. my tank is large (265 ) but they seem only interested with each other . don't get real big maybe 3 inches .

I have or had most of those damsels on your list and by far the 3 striped humbugs, dominos and blue velet are the most aggressive especially when adult size, but all of them can get aggressive when in breeding pairs defending territory. I wouldn't classify any damsel as peaceful because most if not all will find and defend a bolt hole, but from your list the yellow tail, Starki and Talbot's also an Azure and Rolland's are good community damsels if kept by themselves because they will only defend a small area. I have a black bar chromis which is fine too....

I have both the azure and starki... neither one is aggressive so far. If I had to pick one damsel, it would be a starki because it looks like a dwarf angel.

All this in a 55 gallon tank?

I hope not .....because within a year all that will be left is a 3 striped on one side, a domino on the other and a blue velet in the middle ....LOL

hey snorvich, no damsel yet. thats the list of my LFS for damsels. i want to purchase only the peaceful ones thats why i need your oppinions.
mike ny, my LFS doesn't have azure and rolland damsel. the starcki is very rare for them so i have to wait. probably the yt and talbots from the list.

guys, how about the blueback damsel or bluegold damsel??? any thoughts? i haven't heard anything good yet about these fish. anybody had a good/great experience with them?
