Damsel sifting sand?

Hi all,

I have damsel (fiji blue) that's been sifting sand all over the place is this normal? It's becoming a pain because I now have around 10 holes and uneven sand all around my tank and he's getting sand everywhere. Is this going to be bad for my tank?

is he putting the sand in his mouth or is he "scratching" in the sand

It looks like he's hitting it with his tail

Normal I'd say. My yellow tail does this in his sleeping spot
