danskim's 300g rimless starphire

Absolutely nothing. But when thats all you do at work, and all you do at home (besides reefing), youd like to have some variety lol.

Lol. We dont make money on reman trannies anyways. lol.

I'll try that. I know the isoproxy.com doesnt work =( Maybe that one will. Thanks for that.

Great tank!

I have a few questions for you as I am setting up a 8'x3'x'16" tank (240) with a 100g sump. You say you around 250# of rock. I am guessing that is not all in your display. Is this total you have including your sump. I love the look of your open aquascaping and would like to do something simialar. I often worry though I will not be able to get enough rock in the system if I don't put more in the display. So I take not having the 1 to 1 1/2 pounds of rock per g. of water is ok. This would give me alot more freedom to do what I want. I plan on packing my sump with a 100+ or so pounds. I plan on then creating my reef in the diplay with as much as needed to get it where I like it.

Thanks for the help, and your tank has really given me some new ideas.

Oh, what do you think of the O. cal. reactor so far? I am still looking at them.

Thanks jpa.

I probably have between 200-225 lbs now that I think about it some more haha. But yes, that's the total amount including the few pieces I have in the sump.

If you have the room and rock, I do suggest putting more rock into your sump.

I think the 36" depth you picked is great, but I am just a little concerned that 16" is a little shallow unless you are planning to do BB. If that's the case, then nevermind :)

I am not worried about the height. I am doing a 1" SB. I guess what I am wondering is have you ran into any problems with such little amount of rock in such a large system? I plan to pack my sump with as much as I can (100g rubbermaid). You can see my build if you click my red house. I am just looking to aquascape as open as possible with alot of options for mounting coral. I know I want the best of both worlds. Your thread has given me some new ideas.

Thanks for the help.

Very nice build. I just skimmed through it. I know you didn't mention the sand issue, but I had an issue with sand (also 1" ssb) blowing around with 25" height. I just wanted to let you know.

I don't think my tank has been set up long enough to say whether or not it was a bad idea to put so little rock in proportion to water volume. However, as I mentioned in another post to someone concerned about my lack of rock, I don't have a very heavy bioload, so there shouldn't be as much pressure on the rock and its bacterial inhabitants. Also with an efficient (and soon to be oversized) skimmer, a refugium, water changes, and other good husbandry measures, I think I am in the safe zone.

I'd say go for the open look if that's what you want.

are you trying to split the thread too Dan :D , no more livestock i said that all the times when my wife ask me you bought more.

tank is looking sharp, Love that big birdsnest.

Thanks. I looked today, and there's at least 35 white dots on the branches particularly on the left side... it's going to explode with more branches soon. :D

Ok make that 35 white spots into 100 :)

I think they require about medium flow and medium lighting. They're a pretty hardy coral and very fast growers. And they look really nice once they get big. The little fish love to swim between the branches :)

The lemon gobies don't bother the corals? I heard or read somewhere that the lemon/clown gobies can irritate the corals so they don't really extend their polyps. Also they lay eggs on the underside of coral branches which can cause tissue recession.

They are cool little fish, and if you haven't had problems, I may want to get one too :)

well not yet, its like the angels that nip. little here, little there :D that's why i needed to stock my display with tons of corals so everyone can get a piece of the pie.

I say go got it. My little green clown is a very cool fish. Never had no problems with him and corals.

i had a yellow clown goby that I had to take out because his nesting was irritating the SPS. It's too bad cuz those little guys have a lot of personality

First Read of this Thread: This tank is amazing, Great work. Tbone28 i know what you mean about the gobys mine was nesting on my toadstool and it hardly ever opened so when i sold the goby it was always open.
