danskim's 300g rimless starphire

Yeah, he does. I wish a few more things were in stock when I ordered, but he also put up a few items because he knew I was waiting.

Next time I hope he has a larger acro selection.

Finally got my last livestock order from reefhotspot.com

1 Desjardini tang - I ordered a 2.5" one, but the one I got is nearly 5"
3 Carpenter's flasher wrasses (two have disappeared already :()

1 t. derasa clam - Again, I ordered a 2" one but got one about 3.5". It's not super colorful, but it's still attractive.

2 skunk cleaner shrimp - I have them in a fish trap to see if the hawkfish will go at them. I tried removing him, but he's a really tricky little fish to catch.

Haha well the desjardini is still really shy. The purple and yellow tangs aren't really bullying him much or at all, but he still kind of likes it back near the rocks. He's a beautiful specimen though... really big like I mentioned.

The one flasher wrasse would be moderately easy to shoot, but I want to get one with all three. Hopefully, the other two will come out of hiding... The good news is that they didn't jump out, and they're not in the overflow or sump.

Talking about fish jumping out of the tank you remind me of the hawaii flame wrasse jump out of my 4x4 cube with 4" brace and landed on my wife head while she is trying to feed the two dogs. She got freak out and the fish jump again and landed on the floor. While trying to figure out what to do with the fish (woman :D). My dog "Boo" smack the fish with his paws... The fish survive with multiple wounds :D.

Make sure you keep some kind of net over the top of the tank tho. Them wrasse will jump after they get used to the tank. JMO.

Ok ok... here are the pictures :)

One of the two cleaner shrimps - they're in a fish trap so I can observe whether the hawkfish will try to attack them

And also here is an updated livestock list for those who can't bear to go back a few pages to see:

1 Desjardini Tang
1 Purple Tang
1 Yellow Tang
1 Christmas Wrasse
1 Six-line Wrasse
1 Flame Angel
1 Coral Hawkfish
2 A. Ocellaris
3 Carpenter's flasher wrasses
5 Lyretail Anthias
5 Bartlett's Anthias
9 Yellow-tailed Blue Damsels
13 Green Chromis

Two of the damsels are now gone. I found one against the side of a 6100 :( I knew he wasn't right in the head to begin with. The other has just been missing for a few days.

The two largest damsels are the most annoying. It's not because they're aggressive towards other fish, but they get up under a colony and kind of stir up a little sand storm. Those little punks!

Haha, that's a funny story.
I had a fairy wrasse jump out at least three times while I was there. He didn't make it the fourth time... :( I also lost a six-line from jumping out :( It's strange because it doesn't seem like an ideal strategy even in nature since he would land back in the water not too far from where he jumped.

Danskim,

I just finished reading your entire thread and I must say, very nice work

I'm going to follow this thread very closely as I'm in the early stages of planning something quite similar but just a tad bigger, 96x48x25. However, basically everything else will be the same: Starfire, rimless, waveboxes, T-5 lighting, etc.

I'm also highly considering having Glass Cages build it. It was mentioned earlier but can you post some pics of the silicon job and joints? From the side and from above if possible

Thanks,

Love your tank.

Would love to see some pics from the front and abit from the above... If you understand what i mean?

Bjarne, here are the pictures as you requested. Hopefully this is what you meant:

I shot at 24mm with a full frame dslr, but I still couldn't capture everything. I lost a bit of the sides too because I had to rotate the canvas so the top and the water line were parallel to the borders. Haha... and don't mind the little fish trap. I'm trying to capture the hawkfish :(

Nick, here are a few pictures of the joints. As you can see, they aren't attractive. Neither are the ground edges. I think I mentioned earlier that I wish I would have gone with another builder, but it was too late. However, since I don't look at the tank up close most of the time, I'm still happy because it's sturdy, and the starphire panes are clear.

I ordered an acrylic camera box, so I'll be shooting lots of top down shots soon!

I love that shot, Dan! It really shows just how open your aquascape is. I like it even more now! Can't wait for those top-downs :)

Bart, I hear Xanax works wonders :)

How would you know? ;)

Great pics Dan! What camera are you using?

Thanks :)
I shoot a Canon 5D. Most of the pictures I've taken were either with the 24-70mm f/2.8L or 35mm f/1.4L.
