DARK's 210g on Polyp Labs System Reef-resh and Reef Roids

Rob,

which products are you currently using? Do you feel Reefresh is effective? DP's experiences have me concerned...i still do not understand why his corals are reacting the way they are.

Zeo is a more outlined and planned system, but it seems if you can tame the beast of priobiotics you can get just as good if not better results....Iwan certainly comes to mind.

It also seems that the bacteria mulm that is released from the reactor would be great for corals...or so we all have been lead to believe...are you feeding more to compensate?

hey flint I am actually finding that for my system the polyplab dosages are way too high. that could be because I also use prodibio. but I have not been adding the reef booster for the most part because it seemed to be too much at once and I only added 1 vial at a time on my 265. my tank does have alot of growing to do so I would recommend to start way low if your tank isn't fully grown in already. even then I would start really slow. I have been back to dosing all the polyplab stuff for 4 or 5 days or something not alot longer than that. I have been adding 1 drop of genesis and acids and 2 drops of plus. I have to say the color change for the better has been alot better than when I was overdosing. I am adding 1 biodigest and 1 bioptim everyweek. and for another month or so or until all the red slime is gone I will not be adding reef booster. when I do I will monitor and report if the slime comes back. I think it was really from overdosing the polyplab stuff. I think the polyplab recommendations should only be followed if your tank is full grown and worked up to. just my opinion though use your best judgement and watch everything closely.
so my dosing schedule right now is
daily
1 drop polyplab acid
1 drop polyplab genesis
2 drops polyplab plus
5ml polyplab fuel
every sunday
1 vial prodibio biodigest
1 vial prodibio bioptim

I never notied coral reactions when mixing the zeolith when I tried it so I can't say how good or bad it is.

I have been searching reef-resh and came across this thread. Now i am scared. It has been two years since this thread was updated, I would like to know if anyone else has been having issues/success using this product. I am leaning back to trying ZEOvit now. ATM i don't use anything. I like the way my corals look but the growth could be better and i am having a few algae issues. Like having to clean the glass on a daily basis and a small amount of cyano. My system consists of just over 200g. main display 120. When dosing your tanks were you dosing total water volume or just display volume? I know the directions say total. I am just curious if maybe you ll were under dosing. Here is a recent picture from this week of my 120. I rather leave well enough alone then destroy what i have.

Hey there,

I would not go with reef-resh due to the fact that not many people are using it. You will have little support/information to compare with (unless you have found some...which I doubt cuz ya brought up this thread) :) Zeo on the other hand has a forum and tons of knowledge and experience.

There is a sharp learning curve with any of these type products and problems do arise, many leading to coral death, until you get the dosages correct. It also seems to be my experience that you must maintain ALK below 9 dKH with any of these systems and really closer to 8 dKH.

I tinkered with probiotics for 2 years. Both reef-resh, prodibio and Vodka dosing. Hindsight........I would go with Zeo because of the support and the volumn of people using it.

The potential to destroy what you have is there with any of the methods so research all you can before ya jump in.

Thanks for the quick reply Kirsten. I have done a lot of reading already on this product. I am impressed with a few tanks out there using it but like you said not many are.
Funny that, I am already successful in keeping my alk below 9dkh long term and know i would be a good canidate to try probiotics. I am sure this could change once i start to tinker, and one other reason why i tossed this thread back on the front page. (need more info)
Wonderful thread of information everyone! Thank you. :)

I agree that there are not that many users of polyplab but that does not mean that it does not work well.

There is no messy trial and error like some of the stuff you mentioned and to date I have not known any tanks that have crashed .... just follow the simple instructions and it will work well.

I have been using polyplab since the beginning and have had no ill effects. I even stopped using RO water and merely use activated charcoal to filter my tap water and just add to my tank and my corals are still fine.
