Dart Very Loud

Has anyone had an experience where there dart pump runs perfect then one day sounds like a garbage disposal?

It still appears to be operating correctly just very loud, with a high pitch metal grinding like sound.

I have had mine hooked up for just over a week when the noise started, was previously silent.

Also are these normally pretty hot to the touch? I hadnt ever touched it til it was sounding horrible where I noticed it was very hot.

Any suggestions.

My Dart has never been anything but dead silent. If you're having grinding sounds then something is definitely wrong... I'd give the folks at Reeflo a call. My initial Dart had a problem with the seals out of the box and the folks at Reeflo were outstanding to work with.

<edit> Oh yeah... forgot to add that they do get a bit warm to the touch even when running normally.

What motor is on the pump? AO Smith or Baldor. The AO Smith motors do run hot and tend to be a tad loud. But a grinding noise is not good. Either a bearings went bad or your impeller is buried to the back of the volute. If it is still under warranty I would call Reeflo and have them handle it.

Its the one that was just phased out. I got it straight from reeflo on their model discount sale.

Was brand new to me. I have had the pump for maybe three months. Been in use for a week. Others have said to check if a snail got in the intake.

I will have to check that then call reeflo.

I own and run 3 Darts on my 450 gallon tank. I've had issues with 2 of them - one the seals were bad and one Reeflo had to replace (both starting making noise when the issues started).

Call Reeflo, they are absolutely great to work with (and fast).
