ups already came here and no skimmer

Sorry man, maybe tomorrow? Have you heard from Mark yet? has he even confirmed with you that the skimmer was shipped? He just told me that he is "pretty sure" that DUTCH sent it out, but he had not gotten a hold of them. That was last night.

When I received my EX-1 I didn't get the 90 elbow and extra pipe. But then again, I did not get charged any shipping. :)

he e-mailed me last night with a tracking number and it will be here next tuesday :D

Me too!!!!

I should have mine on Mon. I already setup my plumbing to feed from the overflow. Cant wait. keep us posted. Hopefully we receive them in one piece :)

Quick question ... I have a 1" gate valve laying around, could i use this on the output? ... i believe that the output is 1 1/4" but could i just place a reducer?

I wouldn't . that would reduce quite a bit without even having the control. you'd have to really slow down your water input to compensate. I'd just go get a 1/14'' valve and be done with it

yeah i hear ya ... if i add the gate valve, do i still keep the ball valve on the input? I dont really get the need for the gate valve if we already have flow control at the input side.

I like the ballvalve on the input flow because you can control the ''dwell time'' that the water actually sits in the skimmer orin other words the ''flow thru rate''. the ball valve on the other hands is strictly for water height in the skimmer. [wet or dry skimming]

got it ... without the gate valve then you would have to adjust air to get water level right? Instead with the valve you always keep the air at the best setting. Correct?

I have read a lot of things about off measurements, can someone give me a true footprint of the EX-1 so I can measure my sump?

Platax ... with an output gate valve you have a much larger range of flow rates you can send through the skimmer. BUT and this is important ... you must lower the height of the T fitting on the output. Im talking about that output T fitting in which the vent pipe goes into the vertical hole and the water output plumbing goes into the horizontal facing hole. That needs to be lowered a couple of inches in order for the gate valve to be able to used for both increasing and decreasing flow rate through the skimmer. When you re-do the outflow plumbing to incorporate the gate valve make sure that the highest point of that "T" fitting is about 2" below the point where the clear main body of the skimmer meets the black abs top "cone". If you leave the T at its original height you will only be able to use the gate valve to compensate for lower flow through the skimmer, not higher flow.

BTW ... did you get those O-rings?

got it! I think i'll see what performance i get before doing the gate valve.

I di get the Orings!!! Thanks a lot man.

The skimmer should be here tomorrow. Cant wait to set it up, I have been skimmeless now for over a month

Hey Guys,

Can anyone please provide us with the size of the input barb , and output piping on the EX-1 ?

Input is a 3/4" barb. Output is standard 1" pvc.

Craig, My EX-1 measures from the end of the pump to the return pipe 15 1/2 ", the width is 7". Hope this helps.

Just got my ex2 skimmer and all looks good! the packaging was great too.

The only thing is that it did not come with the airline tubing or valves. I tried using airline and ro tubing but they were both too small. What size do i need for it?

Are you sure they arent packed in there somewhere? Should come with the tubing and cheap little black valves.

Im pretty sure it's 3/16" ID tubing. HD or Lowes should have it. They may have the little valves in the sprinkler section as well.
