I got a few goodies at lfs. Check it out:)

Please slow down...too much too soon. Do you have a good skimmer on your tank? Those little goodies you got give off a lot of waste...you will be heading for an ammonia spike if your not careful...Most corals need a tank at least 6 months old regardless of what the lfs told you, stable water conditions come with time and a 24 gallon tank can have water conditions deteriorate overnight due to small volume...probably less than 18 gallons, maybe less, after putting in rocks, sand, etc. I'm not lecturing, but I can tell how thrilled you are with your "babies" and how heart broken you would be if they died overnight...don't want to lose a future saltwater-aholic due to crushing disappointment. Good luck!

shrooms are what my clowns host:D easy coral and grows very fast.

the pic. of the leather you were asking about kinda looks like a cabbage leather to me.
tank is looking good so far though, keep it up and take your time

Your clown looks so cute hosting in those mushrooms. I am hoping mine will someday like one of these frags I bought today. Its so frustrating though that lfs said I need these things and someone else is saying too fast. Shilo I would have killed for your phone number today lol when I was at local fish store. They wanted to fix my nano up like theirs. I thought I did good not taking all the things they were telling me I could. I guess I will just keep testing water and see what is going on. Everyday all has been good with testing levels. If water tests show a fluctuation should I pull the frags out?

LFS told you that you need them because that is how they make money. I'm sure the Hummer dealer will tell you that you need an H2 right now. This is the time to buy with the spike in gas prices you can get such a sweet deal. They'll even through in the DVD entertainment system and killer wheels...

first off thanks for the comments:d
as for getting a host for your clows weather it be an anemone or just a coral. they don't need one right away, my clowns were in the tank for a year before i even started having corals in it. they will be happy with or without a host.
as for your LFS i agree they are gonna tell you that you need alot of stuff that you don't need or things that you need but may pay 1/2 the price somewhere else just to get a sale. best i can tell you is to research first, ask questions about your tank, and research equipment and livestock 1st then go to the LFS.
as for taking out the corals if you see any ammonia in the tank, i don't think you need to go that far. just get ready to do a water change and while mixing your water for the change add some amiquil(sp.) to rid the ammonia for the time. removing the corals may stress them out much more.
corals don't add much to a bioload which is why ppl can add a few at a time the main thing ppl are worried about you moving to fast is that you may get a small cycle still. but if everything is testing fine then you should be ok. just best to wait a little bit so you can get used to your tank and know how it is running before having to worry all the time if your parameters are gonna change.

Hey Shiloh in a few weeks when I add a shrimp will a peppermint get along with a skunk? I really want the skunk, but these aptasia things keep closing when I try the joe's juice so I may need a peppermint to keep them down.

Has anyone had a peppermint? What did you think of it? Please post a pic here for the "newbie"

It is true - the LFS will try to sell you as much as they think they can get away with. Luckily for you though, you didn't buy any fish !!! :D The corals won't produce too much waste, so you should be fine, but lets wait at least two weeks before adding anything more. When the time comes, a peppermint and a skunk should be fine together (I've had them together before with no trouble.) There is no guarentee that the pep will eat the aptasia - its a 50/50 chance. Joes juice should do the trick.

Keep some fresh SW ready, in case you do see an increase in amonia, etc.

Other than that, everything looks great. Toadstool looks very nice - I want to get one for my tank too. Candycane looks very nice as well, and looks like you may have some green star polyps ?! Can't quite tell. If it is GSP (the purple looking thing on the right side, about mid way) I would suggest placing it away from most rock work.....it spreads like wildfire and will grow over all your rock in no time. I have some pics of a ting quarter size frag I glued to an overflow. In about 3 or 4 months it had taken over the whole thing !

What kind of lighting do you have ?

You've got the same tank I have. It looks very nice! I love my clowns--they're my first set and very entertaining to watch. Right now, they're determining who will be the dominant female. When that happens, don't become alarmed when one of them starts to shiver when the other one comes near--it's part of the process (from what I've read).

Love clowns do you have pics online yet? Shilo my lights are the 2 72 current lights not the halide. When they were showing me frags They told me these would be good with my lights were lots that were not for my tank. Does this sound right? The purple thing on top little with flowy arms they said needs to be at the top of the tank everything else they said wherever. Is this right?

If you take a look on the bulbs when they are off, it should have a wattage on there. How many watts (total) do you have ?

Pretty much....if you mean the purple one you just placed on the sand ? GSP is a higher light demanding coral. Candy Cane is an LPS, which also requires a little more light. Also be careful later down the line, placing other corals too close to the candy cane, as when they feed they have long sweeper tentacles that can sting other corals.

What I did with my GSP was place it on a smaller, fist size rock
(place a rubber band around it, securing it to the rock) and put it higher. Keep an eye on it, so that when it has grown over the rock and starts spreading to the next rock, you can frag it back a little, otherwise your whole tank will have GSP all over ! lol ;)

Shilo

Says 32 w so 2 white would be 64 2 blue would be 64 so 128 is this right? Also lfs did not use word candycane. Everything else you have told me the name of i said oh yeah. Which one is the candycane? Thanks for your help as always. LFS also said could not hurt to touch these things them or me. But purple brain was squisy on top and did not like it:(

5-22 water test results are as follows:)

salt 1.024
ph 8.0 always a little lower than 8.3 goal is that okay?
nitrate 0
nitrite 0
ammonia 0

Looks like so far so good

Hey guys thought of another question. Those black balls in the back carbon I think. What do I need to do to them and how often? Also the sponge it came with 2 how often do I clean and how thouroughly? I will just take it out put other in and clean. I am assuming I need to clean in ro/di water too?

I think they are just bio balls I pulled one out. A LFS said my tank had I thought carbon in the back. Maybe they were talking about the bag of white stuff the directions said to take out if I was using live rock and sand.
