dday80's 70 CAD lights build

congrats on the new tank, I just picked up the same one as well. I will be doing a leak test this week too, just so much water to fill up the display tank.

Leak test success! I had a scary moment where the drain was leaking underneath. I put in a rubber gasket and its working like a charm! Here are some pics!

Now I need some live rock to seed the tank. Anyone have some interesting pieces they are looking to part with?

Yea it is!

It took me two 32 gal rubbermaid trash bins! Do you have a build thread?

Long overdue update!

Long overdue update!

Good Morning Everyone!

The tank is making very slow progress. I recently hooked up the apex and am loving it so far. My next big move is to buy and hook up an ATO and an MP40. Does anyone have experience with the neptune breakout box? I've only used the Tunze which is pretty much plug and play.

As far as cycling goes, I've been terrible at tracking it. I put in three decent sized (manufactured) rocks from real reef in late August. I'm worried I won't have enough bacteria.

On my current build I'm going with Marine Pure in the sump. A few chunks of that would be all the bacteria you need supposedly, and you can make your display however sparse you want.

I have a 8x8x4 block of this in my sump right now. Lots of good reviews on this stuff. There's some talk about it leaching aluminum but nothing really proven.

Seachem matrix is pretty much the same material in smaller rock pieces. Much cheaper and easy to find. I used to use it on the cichlids systems and it did support nitrate eating bacteria. Great stuff

Current water params:

My first step is to get the Nitrates and Phosphates under control. Does anyone have experience with biopellet reactors?

Hey everyone,

I have an update with some pics! I got my reefcleaners order in today and have some snails. They are just in time for the diatom outbreak! Also, I had some time this afternoon to dial in my ATO via the neptune breakout box. I did a lot of trials tonight and was struggling at first. After some research I found this little gem:

One problem with TRIAC controlled outlets however is that they sometimes cannot detect very low power factor devices and as a result may not switch off correctly. They fail in an "˜on' state. This only happens with very low power devices, < 4-5 watts. So, if you have any device like that, you might consider putting it on EB8 outlets 4 or 8. Dosing pumps and very small power heads are good examples of problematic devices with TRIAC outlets.

Once I plugged the aqualifter pump into outlet 8 I had three successful trials.

I expect the MP40 and the DIY top screen to arrive tomorrow. More pics this weekend!

Update with Pictures!

Update with Pictures!

Hey guys,

This has been a busy weekend for me. I received the MP40, installed it, and programmed it. I also put my screen top together. You see, I'm a wrasse man and I want to keep them where I want them! The screen is a little more wavy than I would like, but it was such a pain with the rear mounts for the lights that It'll have to do. I have extra clear 36" x 45" screen top, spline roller, and spline. If anyone is looking for some, hit me up. I got it from BRS.

The Florida Cerith snail shells in the middle are just that, shells. The majority of them didn't make it. I've contacted John at reefcleaners and am waiting for his reply.

I also purchased an Aqualund biopellet reactor today. Now I'm in the market for a dosing system. I have one outlet left on my EB8 so it needs to be able to handle multiple liquids. Does anyone have any suggestions?
