So I buy some snails from a guy in Sheboygan, and have him mail them priority, and he mails on Monday and they get here today...
A) He mailed with no heat packs...
B) Absolutely no styrofoam or other insulation used...
C) I get home about an hour after they were delivered. I didn't take the temp of the water, but it was probably about 55 degrees, if that.
What are the odds they survived? They've been "thawing" in my sump in a ziplock container since I got home. Is there any way to tell right now if they're alive?
I know I'll be able to smell them tomorrow if they're not.
I know it's wrong to assume, but was it wrong for me to assume they would be packed in styrofoam, and that a heat pack would be used in January? They were literally shipped in a paper towel inside a ziplock bag, thrown in a box with a little bit of cottony stuff in the box so they didn't get shaken up too bad.
Sigh...
