My son had a marine aquarium over 20 years ago and when he left home he got rid of the aquarium. However I have had a 5 gallon bucket of dry coral in my shed since. Would this be any use or would it be better to take it to the tip?

It may be of decorative use in your home. In your tank, not really.

I respectfully disagree with the second part of that statement.

Quality live rock (the stuff from the ocean) consists of rock that used to be live coral (coral skeletons). If you clean off what you have so that no dead material remains, it will quickly become "live" once you put it in your tank or sump. I would expect little if any cycle to occur.

Thanks for the lesson! I didn't know that. :)

Being that these skeletons have been in the shed for 20 years you might be better off just getting rid of them IMO. You keep pesticides, fertilizers etc out there don't you? Who knows what might be crawling around in that shed at night too.
