I know I havent been hanging around much lately. I really enjoyed the contests and the knowledge and brotherhood of photographers.

Last week upon returning from a fishing trip, I unpacked my nikon from the dry bag to find it full of water :mad2: My heart stopped beating for a full 10 seconds. Cameras dead. And to add insult to injury, the lens was AF, VR. Dead too. Financially devastating at this point . as addicted as I am and have been to photography, Im out of the game until a financial upswing. Called Nikon and took it in to local repair shop. Repair $ is almost comparable to replacement. Ill continue to check in and say hi. If and when I get back in the game, I look forward to being more present here

Wow, that really sucks . Your images were always stunning. You may or may not want to go this route but i think sometimes homeowners insurance will cover stuff like that.

The good news is the depreciation of these yesteryear nikons indicate I could replace it for nearly half of what I paid new. Still not going to be easy at this time.

No renters insurance? Crazy boy. It's like 100$ a month and as you see could save you thousands. Plus God forbid one of the other tenants or you do something it protects you from being sued. A wise investment in deed.

On the bright side, now you can upgrade to some Canon gear :lolspin:.

I do have renters insurance. It happened away from home tho. Does that matter?

James its a D7000. Not a gem by any means but I loved it and all my accessories fit it including a battery grip that wont fit another model. Im seeing it here and there online in the $450 range. I could go refurbished for a little less. The lowest Im seeing the lens for is 269. Thats $700 I just dont have at the moment

Hm, that's odd. I thought it happened when the tub overflowed and water got in the closet where your camera gear is stored .

If that wasn't it, then maybe it rained or something while the camera gear was in your car . All I know is, you opened your bag upon getting home after taking the camera bag out of your car and there was water in your camera gear, damaging it beyond repair. Sounds like something one might have insurance for . The answer is probably just a phone call (and some paperwork) away.

Speaking of Canon vs Nikon, have you ever considering jumping ship? I haven't been all that into it lately to be up on the latest and greatest. My last recollection was folks were digging Canon for the lens selection and Nikon for it's high ISO capabilities. What's the word these days? If you didn't do so much Wildlife it looks like some of the new Sony's are killer with the MP and dynamic range.
