Since I do not have the luxury of a fish room, my system must be built self contained within the stand. I installed new wood floors just before bringing the new tank into the house so I tried to do everything possible to prevent a flood and ruining them. First I decided to use a drip pan that would line the entire bottom of the stand. This would catch any water caused by leaks in the sump, top off, or plumbing that fell within the area of the drip pan. I also had a hole drilled into the back of the pan to hold a bulk head. From here I ran PVC through the outer wall of my home ( wife loved this! :rollface
to drain the contents of the pan out into the flower bed. Here are some pictures:
