death right after topoff

i had a Half Black Face Angle that died 1 hr. after I did a 1 gal top off on a 10 gal QT. I had matched the temp and treated the water with Stability. My RODI is down right now. i pretty much poured the new water container in quicker than I should have because my GS distracted me and I looked away for a sec.
How do you do top offs on a QT when not using a TO?
I hate putting a fish into QT only to have them die there.

I have a 29 nano and no ATO, so I do a lot of top offs. Are you topping off the QT at least daily? The key is to topoff small amounts daily or multiple times a day so you aren't dumping in a bunch of FW all at once.

It probably could have been other things as well, water quality in the QT, problems the fish already had, etc.

Was it tap water?
Did you treat it for chlorine?

+1. If there is that much evaporation daily you will want to get an ATO for the QT.

I agree top off multiple times a day if possible. IF not then add the top off slowly.

As for the fish it could have been the top off or something else.
