Dec meet?

1. Gomer
2. Lps157
3. Usemore
4. xmenx2dad
5. clamrade
6. dsepp
7. reign?
I would like to attend if I can get the day off.

Looks like the list isn't moving much and that is ok. This is imo, a good start :-D
Looking forward to meeting you all this coming Saturday!

I'll be the average looking guy, with short, balding hair and a goatee. I'll wear a dark purple/black stripped shirt to be easier to find (although, I could have on a black, lightweight Columbia jacket should it be chilly)

this is great! i am glad you guys are getting off to a good start. remember that your friends to the south are not to far removed from a complete restart and if there is anything you guys need don't be afraid to ask. we will be more than glad to help.

Great work Gomer, it looks like with the help of several others you are going to be able to get this all going. I second what psuedopimp said. If there is any way any of us can help please just ask. With the help of many fine people I was able to form what we now call STARS. STARS has only been going for eight months but I feel it is going well.

I hope to see what you guys are getting going up there to be going just as strong in eight months or less. I am sure I don't have to tell you this. It is a lot of work and there have to be at least a few dedicated people to the club to keep it alive. Many will come and many will go but as long as you have a core group the club will keep going.
I wish you all the best of luck.

Thanks SV :) I don't want to grow big for the sake of growing big. I'd rather have 5 people who put their hearts into it then 50 who are "meh" about it. I think we are on the exact same page! Between STARS and NMOK, I think we can bring a little ocean into this landlocked state :D

For those who will be joining the hoopla tomorrow: Although (imo) the biggest priority is getting to know each other (everything needs a foundation), I do think we should plan on talking about a few topics that are important to the club's future.
I'd like to hear what ideas others have (so that we can brew, if only for a little, on the subject beforehand).

A few ideas that I have are:
What we envision the club to be (our mission)
Our LFS situation and how we can help each other
Our "current membership" and how we can help each other
Coral propagation and livestock breeding

Gomer, I couldn't agree more, five people who put their all into the club is better than fifty that don't.

I am happy to say that we have more than five that are really helping with the club and have some good ideas and trying to help move STARS forward.

thanks again to those who showed up! It was great to finally make it a personal venture. Looks like we have a wide range of experience and background. Definitely looking forward to moving forward as a group and establishing our identity. On that note, it seemed that there was a consensus on a new name given that the old NMOK is no more and we are starting out new, with new people and new ideas. So keep some ideas flowing in your mind and we'll revisit them soon :-D

Cheers!

(btw, I decided to add my name to my signature file so to make things easier. I now know you all by face and real name lol)

Great to meet everyone, I really enjoyed the conversation about reefing. Hopefully we can keep some momuntum going. Unfortuntely we didn't really get a chance to talk much about getting the club going before I had to leave. Did the folks that stayed longer come up with some ideas?

(I'm going with Gomer on the name in the signature. Makes it easier to match faces with posts.)

Was indeed nice to meet everyone and share some discussion. Be glad to help with furthering the club in any way possible.

Did the same as well.

Sounds like i missed a good meeting. Hopefully this was the first of many meetings and get togethers for our group.

No worries guys. There will be more :)

I think we should have another meet in a month or so where we can actually do some club business. This last meet was more of a social gathering to get to know each other.

Cheers

Gomer great job!! You have infused a little life into this website and added some much needed pizzazz into the reef club scene.

We got a small group of SPS guys that get together and drink beers and have some (a lot of) acro talk. As you mentioned a little earlier, it's not about quantity it's about the quality of the people in your group. Best wishes, good luck and keep it up. Hope you can find 5-6 good reefers to hang with but on a larger scale everyone should continue to check and post here. It would be nice to have an avenue for some local communication and a little witty banter and some good old-fashion Fish Store Gossip"¦. ooopps and oh ya, some aquarium information and advice.

Can anyone join the club? Im a novice, just started 4 months ago. This would be great for me because I dont know anyone that does saltwater. I could really learn alot and meet cool people.
Thanks
Lawrnece

Lawrence, anyone can join :)

We are just a fledgling group right now but that will change in time. After the holiday rush is over, I'm sure we will organize another meet.

If you are new, you should do a lot of reading and when you have questions ask them :) Take it slow. Nothing good in reefing happens fast.

I'd like to join as well. Only half a year in it but love it. Got 4 tanks. A 75 gallon reef, a 29 gallon FOWLR, a 20L Peacock Mantis tank and a 5 gallon Green Mantis tank.....
