Tim- I have that same camera- shoot in RAW and then clean them up with the program that came with the camera or photoshop- you'll love the pics you can get. The 100mm macro lens does a real good job also.

joe - man, i gotta read that dang manual! i don't even know what mode its currently set to . it came with a double lens kit 18-55mm and 75-300mm. should i be using the longer lens for tank pics? i only use photoshop for resizing the images.

Try shooting in AV mode, set to F20 for depth of field, use manual focus instead of auto, on a tripod if possible, use the self timer or a remote for less vibration and the longer lens might be better but the cannon 100mm macro lens takes some sweet pics if you can get ahold of one. I sold my 100mm cus my tank is 48" deep front to back and it would not reach that depth for close ups on the corals in the back, so I am gonna go with the sigma 150mm. Throw up some more pics when you get a chance-edit those raw/AV mode pics in the cannon program, you'll be surprised how crisp they'll turn out

For digital photography editing, you can also try Adobe Lightroom. It's not as powerful as photoshop, but it's a lot easier to use. It's design to be used with digital photography. Retail cost is $299. Educational cost is $99.

Also - while you're at it, make sure you get a screen color calibration device of some sort. I have the Spyder 3 Pro.
