I just called metropolitan glass on manchester road in ballwin to inquire about some glass pieces for my baffles

for 1/4" 11 7/8 x 8" piece they wanted 9.31 each...I need 5

theres no way IM paying 50 bucks for baffles in my sump

anyone have a decent shop they've worked with or any other suggestions?

since baffles are under very very little stress...maybe I could try some 1/8" or else even acrylic...I know acrylic + silicone + glass supposedly doesn't mix...but that's how every overflow is attached to a glass tank and they seem to be working fine, and they're under high stress

I used acrylic for my baffles and they are holding fine with silicone to glass. I bought a scrap piece of 1/4" acrylic from a glass shop for about $15. Cut it to size on my table saw. Another reason I like the acrylic is you can cut it, dry fit and cut again if you need to. You only get one shot at the size with glass.

well, it turns out that I have enough 1/4 acrylic for 4 out of 5 baffles, so I only need on piece 12x8"

does anyone have a piece of 1/4 acrylic 12x8 they'd be willing to part with, I'll even buy it for a few bucks if you like

wish i would of read this earlier i could of made my hang on refugium a little smaller and a little less re enforced i would of had some left, but instead made a huge refugium to hang on back of tank.

yeah, lonnie, I got three 11 7/8" x 8" and one 11 7/8" x 10" (for the fuge portion)....now I only need one 11 7/8 x 8

dont sweat it d.french, making your fuge smaller and less reinforced just to give me a piece of acrylic is not worth it for you...thanks for the gesture

had lots of acrylic still in plastic got off ebay cheap no scratchs and cut straight got 3 days after buying it. had 3 pieces 30" by 12.5" had one left didn't need but cut it up sorry latazyo didn't like other pieces for baffles and cut up big piece. Try ebay bud. just experimenting with making refugiums this one is 28l X 4w X 12h, not really big enough for a 125 gallon i would have for real made it smaller and gave you the piece i'm just try new things i need a refugium for tank cause i don't have drilled tank for sump and got algae problem bad.

There's a place down in St. Louis where I bought some plastic for real cheap. I got that piece 10 5/8X about 4 ft long for 15 bucks. I think it's name was initials that began with a letter A. They have a bunch of scrap acrylic that I just picked out a piece, they looked at it and threw out a price. He even seemed like it would have been a negotiable price had I tried to haggle.

i found 2 pieces of glass i had cut for a different project that i'm no longer doing they are 1/8" thick glass 22" X 14" free if you want them.

french, I'll keep that in mind

Ive never worked with glass before, so if I cant find some scrap acrylic today or tomorrow I"ll let you know

i don't cut it i just take it to hardware store in town they cut it for me, they got different thickness glass, plastic, and plex glass and will cut it for free.
