DEEP part of the sea where no man has gone!

There are several programs that show some of the diffrent lifeforms in the ocean depths

i dont recall all the names of the shows but they run on a somewhat regular basis on the discovery channel

there are several places with life that would be toxic/deadly to life as we general define life that has life in abundance in the deep so i have to believe that life on other planets is possible as well

hahaha exactly.
alot of scuba divers have STARTED to use NASA's equipments for deeper and longer dives, so I'm sure if nasa wanted to they could put a man under water too :P lol (or at least take a pic and tell us they did :P haha)
They do, and put it on TV even. It's just not for the reason you're hoping, deep sea exploration, but why would they? They're a space agency. There are already scientists exploring the deep sea. We'll probably have every square inch of the seabed mapped by the time we send a human to the nearest star.

also if you believe in Ice ages and ... then at one point the deepest point underwater was a desert, so we COULD find some prehistoric fossils under there ...
They already do that too.

Has anyone seen this?

Amazing

OMG- I just finished reading that same book. Megalodon and all sorts of prehistoric creatures..... I was very stuck on the fact that it truly could be real. There are things out there in the ocean that we do not know about and who knows......
I think the submersibles were cool. Too bad we don't yet have ones like those that were basically underwater jets. High speed, highly manuverable and all....
It killed me that the tanks were in the UAE when I am following the thread of Nahham who is building a 19000 gallon tank in UAE right now...maybe he wants a Meg...hahahaha
:reading:

lol you missed the point :)

I know they do, why arent they and "We'll probably have every square inch of the seabed mapped by the time we send a human to the nearest star.
" makes no sense ....

we are right here lol

so what is the deepest fish we know of ? angler fish ? seems like the deeper you go the more weird the fish get and ...

do we really want to imagine who lives at the absolute bottom of the ocean ? lol

interesting ! thanks :)

now that's not even at 30 K miles lol imagine what's under those lol

and for those fish to be alive in that environment, it means there is food and there is predations ! so ALOT more life down there than we expected :)

I would think a fish living in that pressure and temp and "extremely low-energy environment" would need to eat ALOT to survive, so there must be ALOT more creatures down there we have no Idea about.

also, very unethical to bring that fish up to surface :S its like putting me up in space with no space suit lol

Agreed. I got stuck on watching many of the documentaries about finding the giant squid. I saw a show where they were able to capture babies and then they tried to rear them into subadults, but if I'm not mistaken, they are deep water animals. Having them in a tub in a lab was basically torture.

If we want to see one, we'll have to see them at their depth, not ours. Pretty fascinating though.

nooooooooo waaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy

Whoa, that's a bit much, try feet :p

Of course there is predation, there is the normal food chain down there, this has been known for awhile. Plankton, etc live down there and feed the small dudes and the big dudes eat them and so on.

They wouldn't have to eat a lot, they just evolve to make the most of the available food; conserving energy.

I thought it was pretty sweet. I'd be dead before I made it 1/3 of the way down.

Crazy too that the video was shot completely on breath as well. No SCUBA involved. Insane. I can barely swim the circumference of my 24' round pool on one breath.

I watch this show called deep blue its on starz every once in a while. they go really deep and there are amazing corals down there. its got everything from reefs, to deepwater to penguins to whals and polar bears. great film.

I had picked up a book called "Hell's Aquarium" and it mainly talked about unexplored parts of the ocean having contain species such as the pre-historic Megadolon....this alone got me thinking a lot of about the deep parts of the ocean where man has never gone before.

Then today, in CNN there was an article about the BP gas leak and how we are using web cams to get to the very bottom end of the ocean and to my surprise, the submarines can only go to about 800 feet whereas scuba divers are at 300 feet.

Has anyone ever wondered the same thing? I would love to know more of the mysterious parts of the sea, but ...at the same time it can be scary. lol

Yes! I love this stuff. Its just so amazing to think about all of the unexplored *things* living down deep. Those critters have been around since the days of and before dinosaurs I'm sure. Its so fascinating. :)

I'm going to see if I can't find that book at the library - thanks for mentioning it! :)

You don't have a point.

NASA is a space agency, which is where the SA in NASA comes from.

There are already organizations dedicated to exploring the seafloor.

I just read an article about some sound that the military picked up years ago that they believe was organic in origin. The only problem is that it was much louder than anything ever recorded from an animal. That led them to believe there is some giant monster down there.

Actually, I found the article again: link

the program was called the blue planet, and a man less droid submarine went 1 mile down and there was a dead sperm whale on the bottom with hundreds of other creatures eating it, also there was flashing organisms and squid etc never seen before by man, its my understanding we only know of 10% of the actual species in the ocean and definately know far more about the moon.
