Deep red mantis - any one interested in a trade for frags, fish, invert or rock?

Hello fellow RC members;

I picked up a deep red mantis in my last shipment of LR and I'm wondering if anyone would be interested in any kind of trade. I'm located in the San Francisco Bay Area (East Bay). I'm not on here a lot so please feel free to call me at (925) 788-3661 or send me an e-mail (chris@clicsphotography.com).

I'm taking apart my take this weekend because I have another yellow morph mantis in some rock and haven't been able to get it out. So, I hope to capture it alive and trade it as well.

Let me know if you're interested.

Best regards,

Chris

How to tell what kind of mantis?

How to tell what kind of mantis?

Do you know of an easy way to tell what kind of mantis shrimp I have? Is there a website with pictures of all the different types? All I can say is that one is a deep red and one is a yellowish/light orange.

Ok, well, I did capture one last night. I'll take pictures and post 'em when I get home tonight. From comparing it to Dr. Roy's site and from some understanding of where it came from I'd say it's Neogonodactylus curacaoensis.

I picked up some aquacultured rock from Tampa Bay Saltwater yesterday. It was a hitchhiker and fortunately never made it to my tank. Every time I have ordered rock from TBS I've had at least one of these guys imbeded.

This time I was prepared for it and left each of the rocks in plastic tubs without water for 10 - 15 minutes until the thing scampered out. Then I quickly captured it and put it in a holding tank. I should be able to get some pix of it tonight. The other one I have is still in my main tank. I'm taking all the rock out this weekend to get him out. Huge pain in the ***, but it's gotta be done. I have zero hermits, other crabs, snails, starfish or any other crustation of any kind left in my tank. He's even gotten several Chromies and a Neon Dottyback. I've only seen this guy very briefly in 2 years. I'd say he's the same species, but a yellowish-orange color morph.

It's funny Dr. Roy is practically a neighbor. I work in Orinda which is a bordering town to Berkeley.

Resisting the urge to get another mantis...

Do you ever get any gorilla crabs in these shipments?

My mantis just LOVE Gorilla crabs.

:)

my chance at a mantis locally fell through -- not sure how well this guy would fare in a cross country shipping (I'm in Michigan)

How big is he?

Excuse the clean up by merging 2 threads and just to make sure it is not missed I'll restate it again :)

Folks,

RC does not allow trade or sale posts in the discussion forums.

Thanks.

This guy is exactly the same looking character that I got from LFS last night - Dr Roy has ID'd as Neogonodactylus wennerae

Your pix are a lot better than mine though -Wow!!

Sorry guys, been out for a couple days here. I guess we'll have to take this to another location. Does anyone have any suggestions of another forum or another spot on RC?

To answer the questions above...

Yeah, I'm not sure what species he is, that's one of the reasons for posting the pix, to see if anyone else can identify him. As 30mini suggests, it's probably N. Wennera. I actually have two of them, they appear to be identical. Both have the same coloring and are about 2.5" long by about half to 3/4 of an inch wide (in the body area). I'm not sure he'll make it all the way to Michigan. I was reading Dr. Roy's suggestions on shipping and it sounds like a lot of work and expense. Maybe someone here locally wants him (sorry).
