Deepwater reef 20 miles north of BP oil spill

remember!

remember!

keep politics out of this or RC will shut the thread down and you could get banned from RC.

Stop a minute and think about what you're posting. Stop and re-read what you wrote before submitting your reply online.

IMO it's almost as sad as the oil spill itself that people cannot communicate about this spill without bringing up blame (politics) and I wish we could discuss SOLUTIONS to stopping this particular oil spill without re-hashing blame.

Thanks for the link, Scott.

That definitely bears repeating, Gary.

I'll be watching that blog to see if there's any post-spill documentation of that reef.

**Fingers crossed**

It's amazing what we are all capable of doing when it's a decided and coordinated event. Look at the efforts made for disaster reliefs in multiple countries over the decades. People and nations can come together when they agree to set opposition aside for a cause.

Technology:
Remember the industrial revolution? The cold war space race?
In 2010- Synthetic life has been created! (things that seemed like fantasy once) Science is proving everyday that "if you can think it", you can "practically Do it". Then when people work together, progress is usually seen often in "hurdles" at light speed- compared to when we stand alone.

The oil spill problem is extremely difficult. With the pressures and complications of things that deep.(wonder how much thought was put into something like this happening) However with everything the world has accomplished to date, I think we can be capable of eventually stopping the leak and solving this problem. As long as we come to a unilateral decision to work together. A new "team" may need to be formed. Where no one is going to stubbornly feel their selfish pride and not want their "toes" stepped on.

If individuals, companies and government (s) can make a unified effort together this can be solved. But the longer everyone argues, blames and has reservations of just who should be in charge, the more time is getting wasted with failures. This is like another test for society in a way. Will great minds and hearts come together with great effort? Or will selfish pride, greed, and the need to save face/blame, get in the way of solving what "could" be the greatest environmental disaster to date. ??

I agree. The world should get to work. Regardless, who's fault it is. It belongs to all of us.

So sad...I hate that stuff like this happens..Without going on a rant,I'll leave it at that..

I cant stop watching the live feed from the rov. It looks so much worse today than it did yesterday.

This thing could be gushing until NOVEMBER!!! when relief wells are drilled.

BP continues to spray dispersant only in the middle of the night, the only time i see them do it is about 2am. Probably because not as many people are watching the live feeds.

I hope we have all the little gulf and florida creatures on ice some place so we can repopulate them when they become extinct. They should start fragging the atlantic corals and give to us to hold just in case.

WKRG.com has a good live feed to check out!

I have lived in the Tarpon Springs, FL. area since 1997 and love it here.
I've been watching this from the moment the story broke.
I can't explain how sickened I am over it or how much it scares the bejebus out of me.
I just can't seem to put it out of my thoughts for more than a few minutes. Looking at the photos gives me a terrible sadness, the loss to wildlife and the economy, so far..........
I feel that the thicker heavier crude that is down deep now which hasn't floated up immediately (like what we are seeing atm) will finally surface after some time of being pushed by the currents and storms.
This stuff is gonna land somewhere right?
If this goes on for very much longer it will all be pushed to the tipping point I fear. My real nightmare is the whole gulf ecosystem will collapse if it reaches that apex. This spill if it were completely stopped "right now" would in time (even with cleanup) still touch every mile of the entire gulf coast. Causing some extent of loss to wildlife on a large to small scale and that is "best case" scenario. At this point it has a chance of recovery, but if it continues then what?
They keep saying that it will go around Florida and up the east coast too. All the islands of the Keys are in that path.
Nobody can say it won't but nobody wants to hear or say it will.

I don't know if I should be preparing for an eventual evacuation or not.
I can't stop myself from imagining it being any worse.
