Fish out of the water will masked a lot of defects but in this case the defect cannot be masked

not my fish, but was told his fish were the best clowns he has ever seen with no defects so asked for pics as he was selling then saw the hump and got bashed for talking about it. so wanted other opinions.

Some people would have culled that fish.

Of some of the malformed ones I have seen, I do not understand why or how people keep them. Personally I do not see any positive aspect of them. While I am not a purist, I just do not see it.

Well, I doubt you are going to get too many of us here in this forum stating that the clownfish in the pic is one of the best anyone of us has ever seen - it is obviously deformed/ stunted, and is just another example of a lack of appropriate (and to be honest, probably necessary in the long run) culling...:thumbdown

That clown is small. Judging by the size relative to the hand, he cannot be any larger than about 1.5 inches. The pinched head can be clearly seen, There is spinal deformities also. The larger broader abdomen in this clown is not that of a female loaded with eggs but due to spinal deformities. Fins seem small, especially pelvic fins. I think the only reason why the clown was not culled is because either the breeder do not cull his clowns or the dark color show early.
This is really too bad because I think breeders should have the responsibility to produce captive breed clowns with reasonable body shape. Coloration and marking should be of secondary important. Obviously this is not the case with this clown.

he did say it came from c-quest, but I don't know if it was that one or one the one he breed. maybe he ment the parents were from c-quest

Looks like the hunchback of notre dame...

It's the right addition to a grouper or lionfish tank :D

And if that's the best they've ever got from their pair, they better cull that pair as well.
