Dehumidifyer Water

Can it be used? I am sure that I am not the first person who has considered it, but what is wrong with it? You'd think that it was pretty pure.

the main reason i've avoided it is becuase usually dehumidifiers have copper coils that the water is condensed on, before it collects in the tray or goes down the drain.

copper + water + reef inverts = all kinds of bad things.

It depends on the dehumidifier. Some people use DH condensate with no problems, but some have copper coils and/or anti-mold chemicals on the coils.

I wouldn't use it without running it through carbon and DH resin first.

Get a TDS meter. Water collected from a dehumidifier is usually loaded with contaminents- more so than tap water.
The same goes for rainwater.
The solution is to make RO water. Perhaps add a DI cartridge after the RO.
