Deltec MC500 in sump

I am building a sump/fuge to go under my tank (a Red Sea Max) & would like some advice on positioning a Deltec Skimmer. In the past I have had skimmers that have water returns high in the skimmer body, so it was easy to direct flow away from the compartment for the skimmer, but with the Deltec, the water is returned through the submerged portion of the skimmer, therefore if it is kept in a separate compartment within the sump, the skimmed water will be returned to this compartment & at least in part re-skimmed, effecting the overall efficiency of the skimming process.

Would be interested to hear if/how anyone else has dealt with this problem.

Cheers

I would just position it so that the effluent of the skimmer is as close to the area of the overlfol to the next compartment of your sumo, or the return pump as possible. Some recirc is really not a problem.

Glad to hear that somebody else believes the same way I do. Could you setup the pump so it is behind its own baffle some how? If not I don't think you can do much to be honest.

Thanks Folks.

Patrick12 - It looks like that is what I may have to do, although I do not like it... & whilst I am sure sime recirculation is not the end of the world, logic tells me that having any amount of "cleaned" water returning to the skimmer cannot be a good thing in terms of efficiency as opposed to having only untreated water at the intake point.

kgross - The pump is within the body of the skimmer, so unfortunately no - cannot work that way.

the other thought that I had was perhaps builing the sump with a "slot" to feed the skimmer into that was a fairly tight fit on either side of the skimmer body & create the effect of having the inlet side of the skimmer in one partition & the outlet/effluent in the other... this of course is a PITA when it comes time to removing for cleaning
