Deltec vs Octopus?

hahaha

I really, really appreciate that you do all the DIY stuff -- your Maxijet mod is WAY cooler than just buying Tunzes. I have a retired (but still working strong) Maxijet that I'm going to do your mod on. Not because I need it, but because, like these skimmers, it interests me. I want to build a DIY internal wood airstone skimmer as well for my 20g hex -- I just know I can improve on the Lee's downdraft that's in the tank already, it's such a pain to clean!

I'll probably be putting the CS-180 on my forthcoming 75g lionfish tank. I enjoy watching it work too much to let it go -- I watch the thing work more than I watch the fish in the tank it's so sad.

This forum would be better if everyone just contributed in a positive fashion as you do, keep it up...

I'm glad you said that about the airstone driven skimmers. I think they're still some of the best skimmers around especially when talking about efficiency and power consumption. I have a Berlin Airlift 60 that I'm still very fond of and it works consistently well. You're right though they are a PITA to clean.

Whoooooooa 84" diameter.

However, if I'm paying $23,500 for a 1700 pound skimmer kit, I want to go a little higher than $500 in packaging.

"Yeah, Smitty, just toss some styrofoam pellets and bubble wrap on that thing and get her out today."

modified eheim pumps

tacocat , what exactly does deltec modify on their eheim pumps compared to the standard eheims?

How do you guys think a bubble king compares to deltec and the other skimmers on this thread.? Notice quote...

^^^^That's the $64,000 question!!

I don't get what the big secret is... what's to stop someone from buying a Deltec, taking pictures of the "modified" pump and posting them online to compare to a regular non-modified pump?

I don't think the OP is asking for design specs. He just wants to see if there is in fact a difference and since I stumbled across this thread, so do I.

I'm sure Deltec has a patent on their special design... IMO, if someone really wanted to copy it, not showing a pic is not preventing anything.

Just show us the difference (not looking for the exact design specs) and all this would be over and done with.

Well, you might get in a bit of hot water for encouraging a patent violation should they really choose to push it....but....is there a US patent?

Deltec police are going to come and reem your butt for asking that question. They got super poed when i asked that on the deltec forum.

I think its crazy for anyone to get mad about an inquiry!?!? were not asking so we can mass produce them but more so we can justify spending the money on their product!!!!
