dendro beauty

not to hijack here, but since this is the current dendro thread I'll ask it here...

What's the difference between a dendro and sun coral? They look the same, both need to be fed, come in the same basic colors, and they seem to have the same water quality needs. I take it dendros tend to be more expensive and rarer than sun corals, so there's the exclusivity factor going for them.

So what am I missing here?

mike your unknown dendro is a Dendrophyllia Arbuseula, i love those ones. i have seen two diffrent types the ones i posted pictures of which are the size of suncoral and the ones you have pictured. i love the pic of the white tentical dendro, where did you find that at?

Qckwzrd, the white dendro is very sick looking! I found it on some japanese website or something that had a bunch of pics. Will try and find the link to it. Also, yeah, that unknown possible arbuscula next to the white dendro is pretty cool, the orange/yellow color of it is spectacular.

Acerr, the unknown dend I have does kind of look like a arbuscula but Ming over at Atlantis has tried to search and find out more about it and can't figure an id of it. Perhaps he doesn't think its a arbuscula. Justin (viper) doesn't know what it is and he owns a few arbusculas. who knows?

i know it is because i have one that looks exactly like it. like i said there are different types or i guess sub-species that come from different ocean reigins. it adapts to each ocean climate and thats why they look different. atleast thats my understanding of it.

acerr, can you post a pic of your arbusculas?

Your right, it could be some kind of dendro subspecies. They all are beautiful though.

The unknown dendro is definitely not an arbuscula. The polyps are much smaller and the growth form is more compact.

ok well i will let you be the judge, here are some more pic's of the dendro arbuscula:

thi one is my favorite and the one vivid has displayed on there dendro pic, but the site had it named abuscyla

Picture #3 is beautiful!

acerr, what is the size of your arbuscula? The unknown dend of mine, the diamter of its body is the diameter of a eraser at the end of a pencil......thats very small.

the last pic is really pretty too!

neyugn -very nice dend! Tell your brother I want that white tentacled dend :D

the head is about the size of a dime, i will post a couple of pic's in a day or two. but i have two that are that size, it is a real pain to feed them.

Acerr, yeah its really hard to feed them. Most food weighs too much or is too big and falls out of their tentacles. I feed my dends first and then blow some of the juice from the food onto the unknown dends and after a when the tentacles all come out, I slowly blow small pieces onto the coral. I also make sure the pumps are off.

Here's the mother colony of the unknown dendro.

Does vivid still have the abuscyla on their site? I can only find the ones for 100/polyp.

:eek1: :eek1: :eek1: :eek1: :eek1: HOLY COW thats a massive colony Viper!!! Lots of polyps to feed...........maybe the guy in that other thread should feed each head since he feels that every head needs to be fed.

Viper, can you post a pic of your arbusculas? I have seen pics of it and it does look different than the unknown dends. Maybe you can also post recent pics of your ATL arbusculas you had got a few weeks back.

vivid doesnt sell the abuscyla, they just have it pictures as the dendro for sell. i wish, i would have bought them out, i love those ones. that is one sweet colony, where did you get one that big from, and did you have to morgage your house to do it?

Acerr -thanks for the link! Very nice site with pics. The unknown looks a bit different than the rhizopsammia verrilli but it could be a possibility.

Qckwzrd, go here:

http://www.marinelifephotography.com/corals/orange/cup-corals.htm

Takes you right to all the pics and all. Might be hard iding some of the corals. However, remember what I told you because there is another site that has even more pics of diff dendro species.

Anyways, I really like the cladopsammia eguchii.
