Dendros

Any one have experience with how fast Dendros grow? I am thinking of getting a frag but some people say they are fast growers while others say there slow growers. If i'm gunna shell out around 50$ a head then I want something that can reach a decent size in a while.

The more you feed it the faster they grow. Mine started 4 months ago a little larger than a pencil eraser and 1 head. Now the head is about 3x the size and it has sprouted 2 baby heads. I feed mine about 3x per week.

I feed mine 5x a week and they went from 2 heads to 8 in a year. It opens 15 hours+ a day. My favorite coral of all time between both my tanks.

I picked these up a couple of days ago. They are dendros aren't they? My LFS had been told that they might be rhyzo's.

Bobafett, maybe you might have a suncoral and not a dendro. They kind of look alike but dendros are much bigger. Take a picture of yours and I'm sure a few guys like Viper can tell you if its a sun coral or a dendro.

Here is a pic of mine that are open even when the tank is hit by natural sunlight:

Well my new ones are about half the size of the one I got a few weeks ago. I'm pretty sure they are a different type tho...sorry for the bad pic.

The dendro on the left looks huge and fat. You must have fed it some mysis before taking the pics! Feed the two new heads you got often!

Yes, dendro needs to be fed regularly. My open day and night. They grow pretty fast too. I got a 1 polyp frag about 16 months ago and got 15 polyps now.

wow 1 polyp to 15 in 16 months? A polyp a month isnt bad, how often do you feed them? I do regular check up on my tanks 3x a day so I plan on feeding mine 3x a day 7 days a week. Any one see any harms from overfeeding them besides polluting the tank (my oversized skimmer takes care of that)

I would think that 3x a day would be too much. You only need to feed them one time per day max in my opinion.
