Pretty small cleaner shrimp, is it new?

Nice shots btw, I wish I had my dSLR back when I had cleaner shrimp, missed a lot of good shots.

Had it for 3-4 weeks now. Lately cleaner shrimps were out of stock around here and this tiny one is the only one I could find. Came with this lump on it but seems it's Ok with it.

Hate to be a downer here, but does that cleaner shrimp have a bump on its left flank? Look at its right side, are both sides symetrical?

Some of them develop parasitic isopod problems - no way to treat it, but its not always fatal. Usually if anything happens, it does so when the animal fails to molt properly....

Not a downer as I realised this the day I got this shrimp few weeks ago. Still doing fine and wondering if it'll go away when he molts or not. Seems perfectly active as you can see in the pic and seems to have grown a bit. I have been asking for an explanation of this bump for weeks on my build thread and didn't get any so thanks.

Evidently, these isopods can cause sterility in shrimp (no big deal if you aren't out to breed them) and as I said, there are some anecdotes of shrimp dying during a molt - but then, even un infected shrimp sometimes do die during a molt, it is a stressful time for them anyway. Best of luck!

BTW: cool picture! I'd like to see more shots like that here. People work out the technical aspects of their camera, but then just spend their time shooting static corals or broadsides of fishes (like me!). Its like we sometimes forget that the subject is important also - being at the right place at the right time....

That's more like the wrong place at the wrong time! That Pseudochromid is dead right?, it isn't posing on its back for the shrimp is it?

The Pseudocromus is fine and yes he was upside down. Don't know what it was but that was his way to get cleaned.

Are you sure that is a Kole tang (Ctenochaetus strigosus) I have never seen one without a yellow ring around the eye before?

Do you think if he manages to molt the fist time he'll get rid of them? do you think after the molt in case he succesfully does it or in the case he dies doing it will there be any risk of those isopods infecting fish or other things in my tank? do you think I should get him out and trt him with anything or Euthanize him?

I remember havinga big collection of shrimp in ation pics that I had taken with my film camera. Will try to find them and then I'll post some more.

It was Id'd as Kole tang don't know really if theres many types of them, but all other kole tangs I've had have had brown rims around their eyes. this one has a blue rim that doesn't always show on pics. Maybe someone can give a better ID?

Hard to say for sure as some Ctenocheatus appear different at various life stages and a few of them are fairly easy to confuse... However, I'd say it's a Ctenochaetus binotatus.
